videobob, is there a reason why you are referring to yourself in the 3rd person? It's really kind of strange.

Videobob,

maybe it's time to move away from the VHS reference and get "hip" and "jiggy" with it!

BluRayBob or DVDbob sounds pretty pimp.

Good luck with the auction, I'll try and catch it.

That was a joke.

Qualitative, Quantitative they are still toys.

So lets watch VB on the Discovery Channel and try to enjoy our toys/hobbies.

Just another thought in time!

I'll most likely miss it unless there is going to be a torrent for it down the line. But I see bob is close to me, so perhaps I can invite myself over sometime in the future to look at his operation and BTTF car(s).

The show will play twice on Tuesday, twice on Thursday and again Saturday.
I am sure many more after that, so it will be easy to catch it.
I will post my section on my website for viewing too!

My wife and I bought some stuff at the auction so we will appear on the show as buyers in another episode...

Here in Dallas, I am going to appear on some local shows/news on KTXA 21 on Monday.
I will post that stuff as I get it.

See you on TV!!!!

Sorry to see your car sold for less than you spent to build it... I guess like you said on the show "you win some and you lose some."

A Betamax is a VCR,

more proper would have been to say-

Record with your DVR, or VCR (VHS or Betamax) to Discovery Channel

A torrent is out there if you know where to look. I can't wait to see it!

It'll be on again in a half hour (10:30 CST) according to my channel guide. I've already got it on my DVR for repeat viewings.

Apparently here is the place that bought the car in Chicago:

www.windycitynovelties.com

I wonder what the consignment fee was to sell the car? The gallery 63 website states 35%. At that rate that's a pretty big hit to the checkbook if it really took 60K to build it.

When did this auction actually take place?

Mark D

Sometime back in April or May I think. I remember on the old DMCTalk.com videobob was ranting and raving for weeks about how he was confident it would sell it for over 100k.

Just caught the last 5 mins of the show but saw the car being auctioned. Was there a part earlier in the show where they talk more about the car and/or vb. If so, I'll try and catch it later in the week.

The Auction was in April as it was the day I got back into ATL from vacation otherwise I would have gone over to watch it.

Here's a link to the episode,
http://youtu.be/0dXi6Gu96tE

The auction was at Gallery 63 in Atlanta on April 10th 2011.
They actually paid me my reserve of $60K.
The buyer paid 15% premium and I paid 10% seller's fee.
I bought the Delorean for $15K, put about $15K into it.
So I didn't lose money, but it should have fetched twice as much.

They didn't do a good job of getting bidders.
The winner was actually someone I was already in talks with and I brought
him to the auction and he won by phone.
I had several other bidders who claimed they couldn't get the Gallery on the phone!

Similar replicas have sold for $95K and more.
This was the first one with the real NEON on it, I know that another builder has
since built one just like it and got over $100K for it.

This was my 6th Time Machine, I am just finishing up my 8th replica now.
I expect to get a lot of calls after this airs a few times.
They will be replaying it all month.
Thanks!!

I just watched the torrent before seeing you had a youtube link up. What a bummer, but hindsight is hindsight.

30k -> 55k is still a whopping 25k difference. But the time that goes into building one must be astronomical in shop-hour rates. And I don't know if you do anything else besides your movie car business. 60k really seems like a bargain for a car that so much work has gone into.

I am on my 8th one now.

Congrats on sale. Just out of curiosity was that the same car that was on eBay at the beginning of the year starting at something like $485k and quickly making it's way down to around 85k and not selling? I kind of remember your name from the listing, but I could be wrong. Was just curious.

Also, when you say you are "working on your 8th car" do you mean 8th BTTF replica, or 8th movie car replica? Have you done any KITT's or Blues Brothers, if so can you direct me to somewhere I could see picts.

Again, congrats on the sale, and keep up the good work.

Yeah, I had it on eBay for all sorts of crazy prices just to get it in the press, it worked, I got a lot of mentions in magazines, papers, news, stuff like that.
It was just a goof.

Right now I am building my 8th Delorean Time Machine replica.
This does not include my other movie cars, no.
I have over 10 project cars at the shop now.

Here is another cool video if you want to see how I researched the car...

Wow. I am very impressed at the level of detail and determination. I would even go as far as to say that it probably is better than the original prop car because I doubt the original has the capabilities for the effects built right into the car, they were most likely triggered off camera manually, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Have you completed a KITT yet?

I always thought you listed time machines on eBay just for the chance of selling one to someone with more money than they know what to do with. When you think about it, its sort of like a lottery ticket with better than normal odds of winning.

The odds of someone paying a few $100k are rare but its better odds than winning the lottery. That would be so awesome if it happened though. I'm rooting for you.

I would guess that given enough time, it might just happen too!

I just saw the show last night, I'm no fan of converting original Deloreans to BTTF cars but I'll give it to you Bob, you did a nice job on the conversion.

I guess the more cars you convert, there will be less original Deloreans remaining.

Thank you for the compliment.

There are still a lot of Deloreans out there and DMCH has been slowly adding to the pool with their "new" cars.
Consider that ALL of the replica conversions out there only add up to less than HALF of one percent of the total Delorean numbers, so there is not much to worry about!!!

The auction was great. What I really like about your conversion's is the quality of your electronics. All your props really do work. Unlike the props on the 100 percent Technically Acurate Hollywood auction car last year.

Job well done.
Great to see Kevin Pike there
