I always thought the only difference between the U and E was formatting for country. U was american (NTSC) and E was European (PAL).

Since BTTF was filmed in the US, it makes sense that it would be a U model.

Visually, I believe they are identical with the exception of the model number. If you are in the UK or Europe, it would probably be cheaper and easier to find an E model.
