At least...? Dude, you are going to get bombarded. I did the same thing once I actually got a flux capacitor; it makes the BTTF remarks a bit more bearable.

I once had a BTTF Vanity plate, but my FC was broken so the BTTF comments just got insanely annoying. So as soon as the car was 30 years old, I did this:

May not be a "vanity" plate, but I love the powder blue tag. And yes, I DID NOT ask for "BLO 328"...thank the Lord only 1 person this year has so far had some cocaine reference for it....

Ahem.

Now, could it have been some sick joke by the person at the DMV that handled your application?

Pedestrian 1: "Is that a Delorean?" : see plate
Pedestrian 2: "Is that the back to the Future car?" : see plate
Pedestrian 3: "Engine is in the back right?" : see plate

Thats just the top three. What's really fun is reading peoples lips and seeing the confused looks when they're looking at the front of the car while I'm driving, then seeing them jump up and down and point when they see the plate when I drive by.

I discovered the combination was still available last year so I registered it before I even bought the DeLorean. I can't believe no one got it before me... I thought some Star Wars or Star Trek fan would have grabbed the combination, but I guess not!

Ok, so now I know who I stole it from! :hihi2:

When I went to the MVA to apply for the tag, the woman behind the counter gave me dirty look and said "I will accept it, but it's up to the main office if they are going to approve it". I guess it was a little too close to a certain curse word...

After seeing the picture of your D with Virginia plates, I am giving much thought into selling my Mustang and buying a D.. It looks amazing! "DMCXII" is still on my scope as a great plate.. Or even "Lseven" or "GRNGE", perhaps just keep my current plate. Some other ideas were taken for Virginia.. "YY4U" :dead:

Really? I have had "1981 DMC" for about 10 years on #5000 and I still have idiots ask me questions about the year. I also have "1983 DMC" on #16128, still get the same question. Funny enough, I don't have a pic of the cars side by side from the rear. I'll have to take a pic and post it here, eventually.

If I were to get a plate to fend off the dumb comments it wouldn't be for the coke or BTTF jokes, it would be for all the "If you don't mind me asking, how much did ya pay for that?" or "what's something like that worth?".

Some ideas:

ABOUT25K

RULEOF25

Or maybe: YESIDOMIND (might need a few more letters!)

Not vanity, but something different for you guys to see.

Picked them up yesterday. Restricted registration, with a log book system which allows me to drive her 90 days per year. It costs 1/6th the price of regular registration. :)

No choice in numbers, given whatever they have over the counter and I think the "H" stands for Historic.

Hi Dave, I appreciate that its a long time since you posted the plates from the first DCS but do you happen to know who had the Ontario plate DELOREAN? I ask because the closest I could get to the name was DELORIAN. I asked everyone in the ODOC and nobody knows who owns DELOREAN. He/she is not a member of our club, but I'd love to know who it is.

My plate has been stored at my local Motor Vehicle Dept. since last year when I garaged 4728 for restoration. They'll hold it for a year and my time is about up, so I'm going to pick it up this week.

I'll be paying for the registration even though my car won't be on the road until next Spring, but at least I'll get to keep the plate.

This morning I brought my title, insurance, registration form for 4728, and receipt for my stored plates to the Department of Motor Vehicles.

I now have my "80S METL" plates registered & back in my possession, but......

When I got home, I realized they registered the DeLorean the plates used to be on (that I sold just before bringing my plates in for storage,) and the registration also expires in 10 months.

Waiting for a callback from DMV now....

So apparently in California, the numbers "88" are banned on license plates. I would expect we'll probably see other states follow, so those are probably going to become valuable in the future for collectors. So if you're wanting a BTTF reference plate, better get your requests in now before it's too late.

Also, who was trying to get plate #23 on this list:

That's a crazy coincidence. I had TYM MCHN plates on my jeep before switching them over to my DeLorean about a month ago. I finally got rid of the ugly blue collectors plates that were on the DeLorean. Now I'm running JEEP TYM on the jeep :)

Ugly blue collector plates. My sentiments exactly. Which is why I continue to pay the annual premium to keep my plates. Financially, not a wise move, but I just can't take the blue plate. I wish they would update them, but they have been that same color from the beginning (1960's)

I always thought Georgia had a neat rule. There you could use plates from the year it was manufactured for your car. On old cars its pretty neat, not sure how nostalgic people are of 1981 playes though! ;)

At one time Wisconsin the leader in all of the states for Personalized plates.

Not an option for collector vehicle plates in Wisconsin, unfortunately.

When you first get a collector plate you are given base ID plate number. If you have multiple collector vehicles the same base number is assigned and then they ad a suffix Letter for every new plate you add.

Example:

123456
123456A
123456B
123456C

The plate base numbers are assigned sequentially. I Once saw a single digit Wisconsin collector plate. That was an Old number assignment and they are never reused.

Your Colorado plate is nice looking though.

How about personalized collector plates....

Personalized collector plates would be a dream come true. In WI we get a preassigned number (now in the 6 digit range), and any other collectors vehicles you own in addition to your first gets assigned that same number with suffix A, B, C, etc. I'm not sure what happens if you own more than 26 collector vehicles.

The plate design is what's so horrible though.

Colorado also has that rule.

I think Colorado has the most license plate options.... you can give extra money to the state government and they will give some to charity depending on the plate you choose. I skip the middle man and send straight to the charity...

You may be right on GA but 68 for CO ain't even close.... ;-)... that was one set... there are alumni plates for virtually every college in the state... and most regiments and branches of the military can get a colorado plate as well.... those alone number 71... to go along with the 68... I'm certain we'll catch up too! Because it's so easy to get a new group added....

Here are the rules for using vintage year of manufacture plates in Colorado:

An original plate shall meet the following criteria in order to qualify for use of the plate:

The plates were made at least thirty years prior to registration,
The plates are embossed with the year of original issue,
The plates are legible,
The plates were issued contemporaneously with the year of manufacture of the vehicle upon which they are displayed and,
The plates do not exceed seven characters.
Your vehicle must have been manufactured at least thirty years prior to registration. It will first be required to have a regular registration issued, such as a Horseless Carriage, Collector, or Street Rod series license plate. The vehicle must be insured. The applicant must sign and date the declaration statement in form DR 2818. Also, please submit a photocopy of the license plate when applying.

Aha, but that 275 includes motorcycle plates. You have to add another 56 at least for GA for two wheelers.

Nevertheless, a shocking number.

Always surprised me that America doesn't permit the reselling of license plates/numbers like other countries like UK and Australia

Wow. Yep, you guys win. :)

VA also has the rule that allows you to use "year plates" if the year matches the year of manufacture. But I believe that's only for pre-1973 cars.

We've also got "hybrid plates" which allow you to ride in the carpool lanes with no passengers (a huge deal around these parts!). There are a few versions of these plates, and the ones which grant the most privilege are allowed to stay with the owner and be transferred from hybrid to hybrid, but it can not convey with the sale of the car. These often end up on hybrid trucks getting 15mpg, while my old Civic VX which got 45mpg was ineligible. :(

I asked the same - they wouldn't say if it was a sexual connotation or a terrorism one. I explained that it is supercharged, or "blown", and they relented and accepted it. BTW on my Corvette I used to have VETTDRM (VETTE DREAM) and no one ever complained that I know of. Got tired of that and switched to "31 MPG". Applying for a new plate to be made versus assigning an existing one are completely different. For really popular plates, once you let yours expire, someone else may have already taken it. Or in some cases like this, it may be forbidden. If you have the plate where they clerk can identify it, the system may just blindly accept the number if the filters have not been applied by whomever coded the software. Most likely for legacy plates (which is why they let you use the old plate). But if you're applying for a new plate to be manufactured, the profanity filters are definitely in place. And unfortunately for BTTF fans, "88" is now on the banned list as offensive in many, if not most states. So if you've got those plates, don't let them expire lest you loose them permanently.

The plate ILI-ILI in the Hawaiian language (where I purchased my car) name was given to me by a Hawaiian Priestess, who blessed my car before I moved to the 'mainland'.

In the English language this translates to "smooth pebble", the Hawaiians loved my car. ( pronounced like ELEE-ELEE )

Funny thing there were two on the Big Island, the other was a Black interior 5-speed.

Holy crap you are FM-84? You made the album Atlas loool omg. Thats been one of my favs this past year holy cow. NEVER would of known if i had not read that comment, nice!

Haha! Yep that’s me. FM-84 is my other passion project when I’m not tinkering with the DeLorean. So glad you guys dig the music. I’m flying to London on Thursday to play a sold out show - oh and we’ve got brand new music coming this week!

The other good news is that cassettes of the album will be available soon - primarily so us DeLorean owners can blast it out in our cars.

Cheers!
