I'm planning a very casual drive around Lake Tahoe, and I'd love to make this a club event if there is interest. I'm planning on spending the night there, however since it isn't very far for those of us in the Sacramento area, this could easily be made a day trip if preferred.

I'm not very familiar with Tahoe. I've only been to South Lake Tahoe twice, and haven't seen much else around the lake. If the stops listed aren't that great, or you have other ideas, I'm open to changes as I've based these stops off internet reviews.

Proposed route (https://www.google.com/maps/dir/38.6555951,-121.0700633/Inspiration+Point+Vista,+Emerald+Bay+Road,+South+L ake+Tahoe,+CA+96150/8338+N+Lake+Blvd,+Kings+Beach,+CA+96143/Logan+Shoals+Vista+Point,+Sparks,+NV+89431/107+Cave+Rock+Dr,+Glenbrook,+NV+89413/South+Lake+Tahoe,+CA/38.2731503,-121.0176124/@38.6749474,-121.1563014,9z/data=!4m39!4m38!1m0!1m5!1m1!1s0x8099865bab6531f7:0 xcdacb7948fc0ebdf!2m2!1d-120.098274!2d38.946476!1m5!1m1!1s0x80997b2c800cbf8 1:0xea4106a389dd92a1!2m2!1d-120.0260528!2d39.2370361!1m5!1m1!1s0x80999cec39713 8a1:0x2be6f53a7cd59db4!2m2!1d-119.943182!2d39.057814!1m5!1m1!1s0x80999c990bdc6ec b:0xaf319765248913fc!2m2!1d-119.9461426!2d39.0413177!1m10!1m1!1s0x80998589eea5 4fe1:0xdd1b2f46fb23918e!2m2!1d-119.9771868!2d38.939926!3m4!1m2!1d-119.9301671!2d38.7840507!3s0x8099ed1d65b6a0f3:0x28 d6a0938fcc9d9a!1m0!3e0):

Parking: In my limited Tahoe experience, I've found parking to be a nightmare at every scenic stop and hiking location. Any stops listed may need to be skipped or altered in the event suitable parking can't be found. Being flexible on this drive is going to need to be rule #1.

Date: July 18, as listed in the thread title

Radios: As with previous drives, please bring your FRS radios so we can talk easily between cars. I have this Motorola one (http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-MH230R-23-Mile-22-Channel-Two-Way/dp/B001UE6MIO/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1433291156&sr=8-3&keywords=motorola+talkabout), but any radio with sub channels should work. I can loan out one radio if needed.

Hotels: We don't need to stay at the same place, but I will post an update to this thread once I've booked a place to share where I'm staying. I'll be looking in the $120-$160 range.

Looking forward to a great drive, I hope you are able to join!

I am now booked at the Tahoe Chalet Inn for the night of July 18th. It cost $119 plus taxes and fees. Again, please book where ever you like, but I chose this place because they seemed to have ample parking off the street and were fairly reasonably priced. For comparison, the Motel 6 was asking $126 for a room with a queen bed!

I would stay next to Hervey's Casino in the spring time for ski trips. The cost was pretty low at $50 a night but that probably requires early booking. Was nice to walk to Casino at night and walk to the ski lift. We would try to drive to other ski resorts around the lake but often the roads were closed due to snow.

Ken passed along this link from a Lake Tahoe drive back in 2002. We could potentially steal some additional ideas from it: http://www.ncdmc.org/meets/2002/tahoe2002.html

Some additional description about their drive:

"As a group we did it several years ago, meeting for lunch in Jackson and then traveling up Hwy 88 and 89 to South Lake Tahoe. We spent the night at Stateline and after breakfast we drove down Spooner Pass to Carson City and on the Reno, where we toured the Auto Museum. From there we split up and took Hwy 80 home."

I will want to come along. I have a buddy with a DeLirean in Tahoe so we'll both be going. Have you gotten anyone else confirm?

Hey David,

I was trying to follow your routing for the drive, were planing going clock wise around the lake? That way we end up at South Shore. If so---Cool. :rock_on:
My D is getting some TLC at a local shop but will be ready by Friday. They know were going a drive. Super pumped for the drive. Its our 17th wedding anniversary:woot: Party Time

Yes, clockwise was the plan. The primary reason for going clockwise was so that we'd be driving on the lake side.

Washed my D last night. Tonight I'll assemble my tool kit (hopefully won't need it) and do another general mechanical check but don't have any concerns. I am about 250 miles away from 30,000 so this will be a milestone drive for me. This is going to be a great weekend! :headbang:

Thanks for a great weekend everyone! It was especially fun to meet Chris and Ron. Thanks for coming out for it! Here are a few photos! For some reason, double clicking on the photo and clicking "thumbnail" does nothing. Sorry for the size. Video to follow once I get around to it.

+1 on the great photos and that scenic video, too. Thanks!
Wish we could've joined the High Sierra/Tahoe adventure!
