Ok guys I need a little help here. I’ve got a car that I purchased a few years back that I’ve been using for parts on my restoration car. The car could be best described as something that use to be a DeLorean. :tongue_stick:

I took the rolling chassis out from under the car and used it on my restoration car. This is now an underbody only & no frame car.

The body-
Both fascia’s are straight but could use some paint. The left fender has a soft ball sized dent, passenger fender has dime sized dent and antenna hole. I sold the perfect gas flap hood (which I regret doing now) and the wheels. Both quarter panels are damaged, but are still usable. Doors are in perfect shape. All glass is in great shape too.

The interior-
It's shot. Seats ripped, dash & binnacle cracked, carpet gone.

Automatic transmission - I’m not sure on condition as I never drove the car. The car was a low mileage car, so I would imagine it’s still ok.

Engine is complete, but I have never tried starting it.

Basically it’s an underbody with great doors and a clean title. So, back to my original question, does this thing have any value? Possible project car? I know it's pretty far gone, but I hate the idea of another one biting the dust. It did save my other though!

Pictures (mostly before I dismantled everything) Note: The quarters weren't mounted in the photos, I just had them propped on the car for effect.

A buddy of mine is wanting just the underbody and panels. He wants to trade me even for a set of aftermarket wheels for one of my other DeLoreans. They are supposedly the only aftermarket wheels designed specifically for a D'. They look pretty friggin sweet. They remind me of a grand national wheel.

Just trying to see what this thing might be worth before I commit to anything.

Worth more as parts to people who need specific parts, than as a whole car to a junk collector.

And if someone is willing to take the underbody, thats a HUGE win for you!

Just in that handful of pictures you attached, I can see a bunch of different parts you either can't get anymore, or you need to send in a core in order to get yours worked on.

Some that came to mind were:

Auto trans shift computer (assuming it's underneath still)
Auto trans plastic shifter/lever
Knee pads and no doubt some other interior trim
Even some of the rusty things like parking brake brackets or the like can be valuable when no other alternatives are available other than clean up a used piece to reuse

There will be a lot more than just those quick ones I mentioned, but the trade off will be your time and effort and space to keep the parts car while you sell it off piece by piece. You'll get more individually than the whole thing to a wrecker, like mentioned, but your time and the opportunity to just get on with life has some value too.

Up to you to weigh the options for yourself.

EDIT: Rich_NYS has been looking for a gas flap hood for some time so that could be at least one big item that could go pretty quick.

Thanks for the help guys! I'm leaning more towards trading the underbody /panels to my friend for the wheels. About the only thing of any value he wants is the doors. The rest of the panels have issues. He doesn't want anything mechanical / interior.

If I go that route, I'll be parting out everything left over that he didn't want.

The hood I sold a few years back. That was the one item I regret selling. I should have kept it for my other cars.

What about the left front fender? Even dented, is it not valuable? I thought they were going for ~$2000 or so (not dented of course)...

I'd be interested in the door cards if they are in one piece.

I would be interested in the left rear taillight. Please let me know.
Thanks!

I assume this is VIN#02923?

The entire engine is worth something to a DMCer since PRVs are not a super common junkyard find. Some of the K-Jet parts, CPR, FV, distributor, ISM, thermotime switch are getting more difficult and costly to find.

Your fascias look pretty good. Are the louvres cracked? If not then that's a pretty expensive piece you have to sell. Is the lower engine cover still there with the grills? If you can clean up the glove box door and steering wheel those might tempt a buyer. Sticklers for originality will appreciate the console clock, headlight switch (presuming it's the factory one), Craig tape deck (I am assuming it's the Craig and can be made to work) and early style auto shifter. For your cars I would keep the A/C control panel just because no one seems to have the decal anymore.

Hey Nathan,

If you do decide to part it out, I'd really be interested in buying the glove box insert (#101329) and the sunvisors.

Let me know!
Eric.

The shifter bezel with clock cutout is also NLA. It looks like it could be repainted for someone looking to add a stand alone clock.

Agreed that you should part this thing out, you'll spend a little more time but you'll get much more out of it.

Hey, sorry, that's my fault. I didn't read your original post closely enough and missed where you mentioned already selling the hood.

A couple others as a vote for parts car versus selling all as one:

- License plate bezel
- Ignition switch (not the lower canopy, which doesn't show in the pics, but the switch itself as they are not easy to find anymore)
- Cubby hole door and lock (were missing on my car originally, maybe true for other guys too)

If you have the time and space to go through things and keep them boxed up or inventoried, you'll make more money and also open up a number of parts that are NLA to other owners. Think of yourself as that organ donor saving a life (just cars this time).

Uuuh! Cubby Door for black interior. Could I get a close up? :)

Get the LFF fixed by he expert himself. Resell it. You'll make a decent profit.

My car only came with one window switch. If you decide to part it out, I would certainly be interested in those. <grin>

Alright guys, thanks for all the replies! I now know there is enough interest to make parting it out worth the time.

I'm starting a new career this Monday and I'm not 100% sure what my hours will be. I would like to hold off on selling any parts until I know for sure that I will have the time to box and ship everything. Once I'm able to start selling, I will start a thread in the for sale section with everything that I'll sale.

Thanks again!!!

Really? I had no idea. I actually have an NOS A/C decal that's never been opened.

Yep another NLA item, hold on to it and if you sell it don't cheat yourself and let it go too cheaply.

Does the engine turn, or is it seized?

I have three extras of these. At least two of them work fine (I'll double check), but came out when I put in the LED lit replacements.

Shipping from Canada to the US has been a PITA the last couple times for me, but perhaps I could get it on its way to you from Crystal Lake in a couple weeks while I'm there for the Midwest Open House?

I can go through my boxes and grab it for a couple photos. Would $20 USD (for one switch) plus whatever the shipping would cost be fair to you? PM me if you'd like (and keep this thread intact).
