For those of you who haven't seen all of the different pre-procution sketches done of the time machine, this is a nice article.

I'd consider if the movies were to be rebooted that one of Doc's kids would build a new one, using a DeLorean he bought off Craigslist or eBay, and would use today's tech like an iPad with Arduino's or RaspberryPi's to control the time circuits, use sunlight gathering (a nod to the film Time after Time) - the only problem with that was it couldn't work at night or on a cloudy day, for creating the 1.21. gigawatts, or figure out a more efficient, lesser amount of energy to create a wormhole or tachyon field, make it less heavy, sleeker, etc. kind of like the Andrew Probert designs - a nod to his work the same as the new Star Wars integrating some more of Ralph McQuarrie's designs.

Since the idea was that Doc built his time machine at home in his garage, using stuff from Radio Shack and the like, then today's DIY'er would use iPads, micro-controllers and other stuff easily bought online or at Radio Shack (which ones are left that is).
