I kept waiting for the movie music to start, and was pleasantly surprised when it didn't.

What a crowd of people. I thought it was obnoxious at first but I guess I'd do the same if I had the chance to get up-close the only restored screen-used car.

Did those little kids at the end even know what they were looking at? Has BTTF infiltrated that generation yet?

I also decided to read up on restoration. Am I the only one who didn't know this car had a Volkswagen engine?

This car really is making the rounds. It was at the air and space museum here in SD a week before comic con then it was displayed at con. I got a ton of pics of the car but I took them with my iphone and the file size is too large for the forum. I gotta resize soon and I'll post some pics.

The clip say it has a VW eng., does anyone know details on the eng.? HP, disp., etc. was it a way of adding more power, was the swap needed and for what reason or was it part of the plot? I never saw the movie nor did I even remember there being one, I don't usually watch 2nds let alione 3rds of a movie unless it's exceptionally done and I can't think of many exceptions outside of Indy Jones, even the God Father III stunk up the place.

But would love to know details on the eng in this case. Thanks!

Not sure why they swapped the engine out other than the fact they used a VW sand rail chassis on the Delorean instead of the stock chassis (so it would withstand the punishment of the desert chase scenes in part 3). I know the engines were used in VW's and Porsches for years. In the 50's and 60's Porsche engines were basically VW bug engines with more displacement and power. I read somewhere that they can get 150hp out of those (nowadays). Not sure of the power rating of the BTTF 3 Delorean. I wish I knew someone rich that could buy it for me!

Did anybody notice they were pushing the car once it got off the trailer? That seems silly if the car was running.

On the You Tube video someone asks them "why aren't you running it?". They said it was because the car was so close to the stores they didn't want exhaust smoke in the stores (yea right!):histerical1:. The car sounded like it needed some engine work done to it in the recent video.

I was thinking the same thing the entire time I watched the video.

I own a VW Thing which has the same motor as this DeLorean has and if I had to take an educated guess on the HP of that motor, it probably has a maximin of 70 HP. More than likely it has about 55 HP. Why would they need to put a high powered engine in a movie prop? More potential problems. All it had to do was drive over some bumps in the desert, and outrun some indians. Nothing a 1600cc engine couldn't handle.
