Watching the coverage from Scottsdale and they just had a D cross the block. '81, auto, ~13k. Looked like it was in good shape; sold for $27,000.

No shame in that game. The Stainless looked a little funky like someone regrained it wrong in spots.

It says 63.8 online... I watched it on TV, and it said $58,000. It also came with anti gravity boots, a hoverboard, sports almanac, and the western union letter movie prop. I wonder why this went so high, and yesterday's delorean was only in the high 20s. Did the movie props take it over the top?

Guess the $63,800 is after the buyers premium, etc.

Yeah, curious about the price also. I looked at the pics that they had online and it looked to be in good shape, but not flawless. Original coolant bottle, passenger door looked a bit rough, front fascia looked to be a bit warped. Solid car, but seemed like a high price. Didn't seem to be THAT much better than last nights car. Maybe it was the props.

Quite possibly a (uninformed) speculation purchase from all the internet news. Apparently DMCH is going to be making new cars (again) just like they were in 2010, 2012, and 2014.

For the record, for when BJs archives their pages

1/26/16 Lot 153 was VIN 04122, Black Auto with 12727 miles and sold for $29,700 inc buyers premium
1/27/16 Lot 462 was VIN 05128, Grey Manual with 7715 miles and sold for $63,800 inc buyers premium.

05128 was listed on DMCTalk a couple of years ago for $38k but didn't sell and then was auctioned off at Mecum, so a healthy investment for someone.

It looks very clean and original. I tried to find the old forum post but no luck. do you have the link?

The guy who sold it at the auction did well... and the guy who bought it got screwed... lol. I guess the props took it over the top, I can't tell. Were they screen used props, anyone know? Looks like the almanac, hoverboard, nike power laces, and the western union letter doc wrote marty was included.

I think Michael nailed it - the "new cars" announcement probably drove the bids up.

Without even looking - no, they weren't screen used props. I would expect, if they were, they would have been auctioned separately. Many owners gather a collection of those things for cars shows etc.

I think overall the car looked in better condition but the very low miles probably did it. Poor bastard thinks a low mileage DeLorean is actually good.

I'm sure he'll discover the truth on that issue if he tries to actually put some useful daily mileage on it ;-)

In case any of you missed the Barret Jackson car that went for 58K... Someone posted on youtube. Kind of funny the day the announce the new delorean this car goes for 58K... yet the day before one of similar quality went in the 20s.

Haha, yes! Showing the hoverboard and self-lacing shoes with the car!! And a buyer making decisions on emotion!

Ha, anyone know where this went. I have car 5127, the one before it. Like the idea of them both rolling down the line together. Hope some of the value rubs off!!! lol.

I also see in one of the links posted someone is telling the then owner of 5128 that his resistor was wired wrong. Mine was wired the same. Is there something I should be careful about?

Yeah it had an '82/3 hood which should have been a red flag. Either the car was in an accident or something fell on the original, and very hard to find, '81 grooved hood. That should have devalued the car for the wrong hood by at least 2 to 3 grand and a lot more if it took a serious hit. This sale is a real head scratcher. The guy must have really needed those BTTF props!

The hood + pull straps were the first things I noticed, but assumed there was something about the years I was unfamiliar with.

Maybe Houston bought it to convert to a New DeLorean?

Anyone who pays 60k for a DeLorean on a whim is not worried or not knowledgable enough to worry about such inaccuracies. Furthermore, anyone who pays 60k for a DeLorean on a whim has less problems than I, so I'm not faulting him.

Personally, I think hood design does not really affect DeLorean values that much. Most people who buy these cars are more worried about condition and appearance. Only well after they have bought the car do they start thinking about things like this. This auction shows it.

You cant fault him for buying on emotion..I mean, face it we all bought our deloreans based on some emotional pull...granted, not 60k emotion...but if he's happy with it, then thats great...and if he just sticks it in a garage in some collection...shame...lol

I would think that for at least a short time, the hubbub about DMC making new replica cars will drive prices up on the 'originals'...specially the ones with the right hood..hehe.

Buying on emotion is right. We used to see car ads like in the 90s for a new Honda Accord that would tell you all about the V6, power steering, ABS and sunroof. Now, we have ads that spend 29 of the 30 seconds showing you the background scenery of the drive you're on with the tagline in the 30th second telling you this car "will make you feel like you're part of the road." Like we're inching closer to the future depicted in Total Recall or something.

Buying on logic/technical/functional = Nope
Buying on how it makes you feel = Yessir!

It might be interesting to look back in a few years and see where the guy's are that bought their cars around this time, with these inflated prices and elevated interest. To either see how their mood has changed on the car, or expectations, or overall interest... of how they FEEL about owning a DeLorean.

Something tells me a bunch of them after a couple years with the car and realizing they got caught up in buying something that wasn't what they thought they were getting (especially for that price), will sell their cars and you won't hear anything from them again (if we hear anything from them even to begin with).
