I'm in the market for a 1981 delorean that has no gas cap on hood, no delorean logo on hood...Looking for one with under 60,000 miles in good shape that's automatic. If u have one for sale let me know...will not pay over 30k

There are DeLoreans for sale all over the place. You should introduce yourself, and maybe give a little background on your interest, as well as the places you've searched so far; then at least people can try to help point you in the right direction.

EDIT: Also, since your name is "DeLoreanTeenager" I have to assume you're a teenager. Just be aware that insurance companies are pretty rough on DeLorean owners under 25, let alone in their teens. I know my insurance company will not cover a person with a classic car under 25.

I'm over the age of 25 my name refers to the age I first discovered the delorean. Since I couldn't think of anything else to put as a username...

Basically I'm looking for an 1981 delorean that has no hood gas cap...I've been watching eBay but haven't found one that's automatic and in the right shape to where it doesn't need a major restoration.

So...... then you are looking for a late 81 automatic with a grooved hood right?

Yes...sorry for my lack of delorean knowledge I always mix them up

Check delorean forums/sites, ebay, craigslist, autotrader, hemmings on a daily basis. In fact, bookmark the searches. Then it'll only take 2 minutes everyday to go through all of these. When you find a potentially good car, don't wait, be the first one to contact the seller. Be realistic about your budget and expectations. Make sure you check out the car in person before you buy.

Have you read the "I want a Delorean" thread?

Just an FYI the flat hood with the DeLorean emblem was an 82 thing (unless the hoods been changed in the past, flat is the only one currently available new)

My car is a Sept 81, black interior automatic with a grooved hood. If you have $30,000 US dollars to spend, you can have mine. That's over $42,000 in Canadian dollars and I'd have no problem taking that money and going to find another hobby.

I'm only interested in cars located in the US due to all the fees when purchasing a car located out of country...

Honestly, I wouldn't get too hung up about the hood type. If you end up with a great car with a "gas-flap hood", you would have no problems swapping that with another owner that has a "grooved hood".

Or just pulling the badge off. Don't let a little double sided tape dictate where you spend your money.

If you can "live with" a gas flap hood and about 65K miles, I recommend purchasing Raffle Tickets for the 2016 DeLorean Raffle Car.

+1

Without getting into a debate on what's better or more desirable... gas flap hoods are harder to come by. "Turning one into" a grooved or flat hood shouldn't be difficult.

Are you looking for grooved or would flat with the badge removed work?

And... if you're looking for something very specific, hold out for it. DeLoreans for sale aren't exactly a dime a dozen, but they're definitely around. I found exactly what I wanted without too much trouble. I did end up paying more for mine than originally intended. I didn't wait that long, though. If I'd been more patient I could have done better on price, too. Though I have a well sorted car from DMCMW that I'm very happy with.

Alan does the badge removal ruin the stainless steel?

No. It's a very durable material.

I have to agree that in my opinion grooved hoods look much better than those gas flap jobbies.

Not to mention every time you top a hill you are not distracted by the mini air brake deploying ala "Kinght Rider Super Pursuit Mode".

I haven't done it, but DM is right. It's durable. You could cause damage if you're not careful. I'm sure it can be done without damage.

It's a DeLorean... it's not as though I'm catching air when I'm topping hills. [emoji6]

:hysterical:

Seriously though... does that really happen? I ask because mine was fairly loose... probably not enough to cause the air brake effect, but after I replaced the springs (101560) it really tightened up.

To the OP, I also encourage you to call your nearest DMC location as part of your search process. They don't always post all of their available cars on their website. Good luck!

Badge can be removed without damaged. Wouldn't let the hood sway you from
A good car, I wanted a gas flap myself, still haven't had one on any of my cars lol
What do you mean by fees buying out of country? You shouldn't have any fees extra aside from the $100 a/c tax coming from Canada
