Shop show 'n tell.

This is before my floor epoxy. I'm still waiting on a stretch of time to get the floor done. You need quite a few days by the looks of it.

I'm going to get a used flat screen tv for the wall, probably a smaller one. It'll be great for music, games and straight up background noise while I'm working.

Once the floor epoxy is done, there is going to be a cheap knock-off persian rug in the larger area to the back and my guitars and amps are going to make their way down there as well. yeah, it's gonna rock!

I also collect old tin signs, vintage and current posters and stuff like that. Would love to restore a antique fuel pump for it. I also haven't built a work bench yet. Our tech at the studio is replacing his and he's promised me the old one, which is nice, wide and laminated.

There is more than enough room for 2 cars, so I'll have plenty of room for my next project, a Triumph TR6! ...... I just might have to restore a Miata for the wife first.

Good new thread.

As a Northern transplant to the South, I can tell you that not having a basement down here in SoFL, is a big loss, and that results in the consumption of garage space, into storage space.

As the kids are growing up and moving out, we don't need a house as big as we've had. So...the next house that we shop for, will have garage space requirements near the top of the "things to look for".

I have nothing to contribute in pictures to this thread, other than our DeLorean in a 2 car garage, by itself, surrounded by some tools and mostly storage stuff. I do look forward to more pictures from others, for future inspiration.

Is that little leather couch there to sit and ponder things when you're pissed off at your car ? I like it....

I don't have any decent shots of the entire garage but here's one from a couple of years ago during my Mustang's major surgery.

http://uploads.m-cgi.com/kennyz/temp/mustang/030208/P6220007.jpg

It is just a 2 port metal carport with a hurricane shelter cinder block construct at one end. The other end is capped by an ugly green "fence".

Well, my garage is not so nice, but better than leave the car out. Actually my car is in my parents house, so this is just temporary. Here is no place for any fix. We used this place to make wine with my grandfather in the very past.

I have 2 acres. My workshop is next to my house. Unfortionatly, the shop was on the property when I bought it. We built our house next it but I would liked to have it orented it a little different. It was a 35X45 aluminium poll barn. I had the aluminium removed and recovered with steel and extended it by 10 as well as a 20 storage addition. I plummed it and coated the inside with insolation and covered the interior with steel. My wife and I epoxied the floor. I built a paint booth and installed the lift. I can fit 7 Deloreans in it (and have).

I have restored about 15 WWII military vehicles. Also having a vented place to shoot spray paint is really helpfull. I also use it when I do engine tests in the winter. You would not think you would use it much but it is shocking how much it is used.

Here is a shot of the new garage I designed and helped build this summer in Chicago. It reflects the look of the main residence. My DeLorean gets a private bay, which is exciting. I haven't finished decorating or outfitting the inside with some of the historical items I have, but next Spring I plan to do a bunch of things to spruce it up. Also need to hang the dealership sign that is hiding behind the car currently.

Just a quick update!!

This is my shop as of tonight. Believe it or not, I had 2 more Deloreans in my shop a couple of days ago. There are 2 in storage not seen in the storage area in the back of the shop!! Now there are only 4 in the working area and 2 in storage.

This is Alex Mishels car. He brought it to me this summer with some major issues and he and I did a pretty good job getting it road worthy. He had never touched a screwdriver and did a great job!!

Sgt Rick Vermillion and I have done a lot of work to his car over the past 2 months as well. His 5 speed is now done and he just bought this '82 Auto from me and he and I are going to restore it over the next couple of months.

There have been a few changes since I first posted here.

My parents moved out of my childhood home in Toronto. I was told to clean out my old room and either take my stuff or throw it out.

I shipped out a bunch of things via fedex, like old trophies, pictures (yeah, real ones) model cars etc etc. Now they've finally got a place where I can enjoy them again.

VIN 2991 is about half done a VOD rebuild and 3205 is undergoing some cleaning so I can locate an oil leak.

I thought I had posted here but it seems not. My new house has a bit smaller garage than the last but im happy to have one still. There is just enough room to work with the delorean, tool box and carts, compressor, table, 3.0PRV on a stand, shelving, a sink, washer and drier and my '72 Honda.

When the honda's body is done and painted its going outside ( maybe) and the next project will begin, my v8 1975 Volvo 242. Garage room will then become a premium.

Heck yes! Love Phish. People love to bash that band more than a DMC. I think they tune out as soon as they hear the name, as if listening to the damn music means they have to light one up and talk about the universe or something. Their loss, that's for sure.

I have the Danmar "MaxJax" lift and love it. Next house will have 12' ceilings in garage so I can get a full sized one in there. Having a lift is one of those luxuries when you don't have one and a necessity once you do.

Agreed. My next house will be able to accomodate a MaxJax @ the bare minimum.

I would post a pic of my garage, but its a huge mess at the moment.

Nice garage wall, with the 4 seater DMC :)

Thanks Domi!

For anyone that doesn't know, those parts on my wall are some of the Lapple master panels that I have - more info here: http://delorean.ie/lapple.html

I've been trying to tidy up my garage to make some room so I can work on the 4 seater over the winter, so I unpacked some of the panels and hung them up.

When they were in the factory in Carlow they were hung up on the walls like this, so there are already some holes in them I can use for mounting. I didn't have the room to hang them up in my garage in Ireland so it's nice to have them on display now in NJ - I'll have to be careful not to hit my head off them though while working on the car. :)

When I was at a show in Killybegs a few weeks ago, a guy came up to me and told me he worked in Lapple back in the day. He remembers the panels hanging on the factory walls. His name was Ciaran Mc Gowan if I remember right.

Complate and total disaster area. Concrete floor is half missing its green paint and is heavily pitted, walls filled with odds and ends, ladder leading to the attic with even more odds and ends, rusty freezer, fire extinguisher right between the doors (so that's where we keep that thing...). Oh, and a DeLorean!

When I first started looking for my D, I originally wanted to expand the garage into a three car garage and fix it up a bit, and then save up for my D. This horrendous garage is due to my impatience to finally live the dream

:

I think you are mistaken.

There is no way that flag ever flew over the factory.

Of course it is the Irish flag (pronounced "Trick-ler" btw), but it is because John is Irish.

Just a little attempt at humor on my part.

Luckily no-one in Ireland ever got upset over a flag anyway. :)

I'm looking at the Jag. XJ6?Good eye! It is indeed an XJ6. 1993 model year, called by a few repair shops as probably the best condition jag they've seen of that kind. Of course, that's probably due to my dad's unwillingness to trade it for the show car he really wants, but that's a story for another thread :giggle:

Still runs and drives great though!

OK guys...here it is. I have dreamed of the perfect shop for a long time. It has been a long road with construction starting in November and it nearing completion now. My goal is to have it done for everyone to enjoy for the tech session here the weekend of the Indy 500 event in May. (by the way..everyone is invited!!). I still have some details to finish but it is largely DONE!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v639/sharkey5/The%20Shop/102_3252_zpsd6fd3df8.jpg

From the front and the outside it looks basically the same.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v639/sharkey5/The%20Shop/102_3253_zps9d8050dc.jpg

I decided to dedicate a section in the front of the shop to storing finished cars. It has alwase been a pain to work on vehicles when you are stumbling over finished vehicles. There is always greasy fingerprints at best and flying wrenches at worst. The best alternative is to separate them with a wall. One step farther...make a place up there that is fun to hang out in...and a place where my daughter can play....one step farther....a place with refreshments......one step farther.....

Its sitting on Concrete Blocks. All 4 sides. Just close to other car at front. Since it was never driven & I needed to store another car under it we cemented it 4 feet in the air. Gives me a whole nother spot in there. It was summer of 2006, I was telling friends I was gonna buy a lift.. My buddy said "We can do that free!" So a case of Beer and 50 leftover Blocks, a GOOD Floor jack, and a day later..

Credit to Julee for the "Live the Dream" words/letters idea. I haven't 100% decided if I am going to stain them or paint them silver or where to mount them more permanently. They look pretty neat though and for about $1 per letter at a flea market, was a pretty easy way to put the saying together.

Second photo and idea comes from the Nerd/Lego thread/comments with credit to Dermot for the DMC lettering idea. Didn't turn out half bad after rummaging through some old totes of Lego bricks :)

Here's mine, built it last year. The scirocco is sold since March so I have a space to fill with another car. Decision time!
Are you kidding? You have space for TWO more sweethearts!
Why be picky?

1- Corvette 71 Stingray
2- Porsche 928 GTS

My fav set of wheels anyway;)

I really like the way you designed the ceiling around the lift. Shows good priorities!

Glad you noticed that Dave, I also have the steel rsj exposed so a beam clamp and hoist can be fitted for engine removals!

You need a car built in the DDR - either a Trabant P601 or a Melkus RS 1000

Commie cars are hot right now!

In my new garage, I may have a little more space for working on the DeLorean than I need - initially :nana2:

Wow!! That must be great! My garage is so small I can just fit creeper next to the car. I have to shimmy sideways to walk around the car. Its gets incredibly frustrating !

Now that is the single best usage of a delorean logo I have seen in a long time.

We rebranded our refrigerator with one of the magnets.

NOTE DMC does not make refrigerators now, and no R&D money was spent on this mod.

The Dmc stylized logo is over 35 years old an has aged even better than the car itself. Damn that looks good.

It's amazing how low the D looks next to the jeep.

Indeed! My D is currently on 6 inch tall jack stands and it is still about 2 inches lower than my new style Camaro.

That looks AWESOME!! but for the fact that you need to take the Packer sign out and put in a Detroit Lions sign in! If I ever catch up to you I'll make sure to bring one over! lol I'll hook you up, make that garage RESPECTABLE :D

Dude I'd just love to have a one car garage....I have to rent out a garage. I miss my house in Colorado :( I took for granted my garage, now all that I have is a car port. (had to sell my Colorado home when I got offered a job in Michigan, the ex didn't want to be a landlord in the divorce, she lives in Utah, me Michigan, house was in Colorado empty for 4 months until we sold it).
