Torsion Bar Adjustment - Tampa Bay Area

Hello,

My divers side door is only opening halfway (I have a new spring), so I believe my torsion bar needs adjustment. I've read up on it and saw a YouTube video on it. It doesn't look to complicated. Has anyone in the area done this before / have the tools to do so.

I should be back in town in March. If you guys get together in Clermont, I may be available also to help out. I'm in Windermere so Clermont is an easy drive. I don't have the main tools (breaker bar extension, jig, and extra long socket extension) but I have assisted with torsion bar adjustments before.

Here is my $0.02
Before you make any torsion bar adjustment...
How is your passenger side door? Works ok?
I would take out the new one and put your passenger side gas strut to test.

If DS door still doesn't open all the way then you might need torsion bar adjustment.
If your DS door works with your passenger strut then your new strut might be weak. Rob also sells winter version struts and you might want to try that. I have his winter strut and works perfact.

I tried that and tried the old strut again just to see. Both result in the same issue. It may open more than halfway , but have to help it the rest of the way. It will stay open once its reached the top. Thanks for the suggestion.

I would offer my help but it looks like you've got it covered.

If it is going to be a while before you can get this adjusted, you might consider checking out the 3 screws securing the plastic trim strip that holds the T panel on (above the rear windscreen). Make sure the screws turn - a bar adjustment gets complicated quickly if you need to drill one of them out because it is either frozen in place by rust or the head is stripped.

The bar adjustment is a great time to install new screws/caps along with a new plastic strip if yours is old and broken.

Definitely sounds like torsion bar adjustment... If I recall correctly the indicator is if you can manually lift the door and it stays, you're struts are fine.
Don't do more than one notch at a time on the adjustment. You'd be surprised how little it takes.

I'd just pull the pistons out, lower the door but do not close it and see how far open it sits. If it closes on its own then you need some adjusting. I think it should hang open about 2" to 4" when properly adjusted.
