I came across these photos over on the dml, where the photo-taker asked for opinions on what happened. With permission from Claude {cbl302} (the photographer) I am reproducing them here, hoping that someone may know the backstory

It’s vin 1345 and it would appear that some form of foam was applied to the car. Apparently it still starts and drives, so it wasn’t fire-related.

Areas seem to have been taped off with blue masking tape.

Someone probably thought to store is for 50 years and the foam would keep it looking new.

It must have been done withing the past few years. That blue tape was not common 5 years ago.

Don at DMC-CA recently did a shoot for a commercial. There is suppose to be a DeLorean sculpted from sand. This could be what they used to make it look like a sand sculpture.

I think it was for an Old Spice commerical, have not seen it yet.

At first glance I thought some DeLorean owner was the victim of a heinous act.

But, if it has taped up insides I doubt that is the case. Still... the act of putting industrial foam on and in a DeLorean is heinous in itself. That car looks pretty good cosmetically. Too bad it's a automatic though...

Why didn't someone clean it afterwards?

Yeah, that's the Delorean that DMC-CA turned into a sand sculpture.

You are correct, that is what I have heard as well. Pretty excited to see it, but it looks like that DeLorean got damaged in the process.

My first response was a plaster mould to make a fibreglass replica.

Hope they can get her back into her prestine condition!

Did no one else think of Demolition Man when the cars wreck and fill full of that safety foam stuff? That's what first came to my mind when I saw this.

I did..lol

It appears to be similar to the foam I used when I assembled tractor trailers, the foam sprayed into the sidewall.. Had to cut the excess foam with a knife and it was very hot!

Wow. Bring on the BTTF replicas and the DeLorIam. Dumbest destruction of a Delorean ever.

indeed. nevertheless, i would spend the time meticulously picking all the foam and sand out of every crevice of the D in an attempt to restore it to its original glory. there are a finite number of DeLoreans in the world...

Dang, you beat me to it.

Delo-I-Was, dude.....that's what I refer to it as. It is NOT and will never again BE a DeLorean

Couldn't agree more.

Also, what's with the new trend to destroy DeLoreans lately? Are they trying to drive up the value by destroying as many as possible?

Fine with me - keep my car rising in average value.

Really? Cause where's the line then? Is the screamin yellow D no longer a DeLorean cause it's painted and has a different engine? Or the twin engine DeLorean engine cause it's frame is different and it has 2 engines? Is a BTTF replica not a DeLorean then since it's so heavily modified? What about the Drex, widebody D, D Limo, D roadster, Electric D's, etc. All not DeLoreans? I'm just curious exactly what that last thing is you have to do to a DeLorean to make it not a DeLorean anymore.

I'm not derailing the thread anymore than it's been, as THAT is DMCTalk's "Godwin Law" I've noticed. Go find screenshots of the Delo-I-Was. It really doesn't even looks like a DeLorean with a painted-aluminum body and a front end that resembles some Dodge-Ford hybrid. Without the Gullwings, you'd almost not be able to guess it ever was a DeLorean.

I appreciate the question, that is my response, and I will not participate in derailing the original thread anymore than this unless 1McFly4u is ok with it. Since it's his thread, I believe it is his call for us to go into digressions and tangents, or whether this should go under a different topic.

Or we can talk about it on FB - you have me there =D ! I don't mind talking about it there to keep this thread's integrity intact.

Thing I hate about forums, you can read something 25 different ways from hilarious to downright rude. Please know my reply is not intended to be rude - just straight and to the point. No hard feelings with your questions - just don't want to go too far :offtopic2: .

I've created a thread for it so all future instances of these questions can be addressed and debated here:
