Has anyone seen these "in person" to see how the quality is?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/GREY-LEATHER-BINNACLE-HOOD-CLUSTER-LEATHER-COVER-FITS-DELOREAN-DMC-12-1981-1983/351758765211?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%2 6asc%3D37472%26meid%3Dc7b6004666984acdb4b219abf254 0e10%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D2319 73941937

Looks like a company in the UK, but they seem to have leather covers for the binnacle, console, sun visors, Door B Pillar trim, door interior panels, knee pads and dash boards. It's just the new leather covers, not the whole item. I'm definitely interested in something like this. Could be a neat way to "two-tone" your interior with covers that actually fit.

This work was not performed by the same entity in the eBay listing though, right? Who did this work?

Just received one before Springfield(didn`t drive my D) and I put it on without taking off the Binnacle.Came out real nice, but,I think it would have been easier and even a better look if I had. Of course I still can do that. So to answer the question I think it is a good quality item, medium hard to put on.6864.

I would really like to see one of these installed. The add on eBay looks black almost. Has anyone received the one that is light grey? Definitely interested..... Although I imagine DMCH will start reproducing binnacles here pretty soon anyways.... Time will tell...

No not ebay, a coworker of mine has a custom upholstery shop at his house and I gutted my car and he redid everything to my specifications. Wanted something differenthttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160731/0a9b8499cdeadc5e987720ef7a69e975.jpg

It looks like the DMC California repros that Danny sells for $375. Personally, I like the look of the stitching.

Oh i know but i got it alot cheaper by my coworker. The seat COVERS are DMC-H but he added 2 stage seat heaters, the dash and headliner is DMC-H also. Everything else he did and frenched in the lighted DMC badge on knee pad and made custom mesh covers over the rear speaker panels. He made new pull straps and a bunch of other little things. The stitching is idea i had for years to do to the car from seeing new cars done that way. Just wanted to be differenthttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160801/040bf5566def2d67bf0d9d6efa9ca26a.jpg

This is a great alternative to the expensive DMC stuff. Especially since most of the fabric in our deloreans is no longer produced. For Instance that elephant skin looking stuff. I may give this a try for my dash and center console.

Do you have any pictures of these actually on a binnacle? Do you glue them on?

Yes Matt I mean sunvisors. We do have pics of our reconditioned binnacles on our website however and will get to the sunvisors as time permits.

Am I the only one who can't see the pictures?

FWIW, I ordered one of the grey leather binnacle covers with the grey stitching two weeks ago, and I'm still waiting on it to get here. I'm going to take mine to my local upholstery guy here in town and let him install it. I'll post pictures when I finally get it done.

Using a different computer, I can clearly see all of the pictures now.

RamblinDMC, I noticed on your top photo, there looks like a "bubble" or something weird happening on the right rear side of the leather cover? Is that a "fitment and installation issue" or a "not quite sewn right issue"?

The Grady replacement looks amazing.

RamblinDMC
04-05-2017, 10:41 AM
Yes that's because it isn't sewn quite right. It doesn't really bother me though.

Is the other side we can't see the same way? That would be a HUGE deal breaker for me.

Yes both sides are like that. For me it was a good choice because of how affordable it is. I'm a broke college student. :)

Do you think it's something a professional upholstery guy could rework?

I've been driving around with a "Save the Clock Tower" flyer taped to the top of the binnacle for two years because of a crack running down the center of the binnacle. I was really hoping this new leather skin would be an economical answer.

I guess it's my turn to try this Ebay "Leather Binnacle Cover". Finally arrived after sitting on a shelf at my local pot office for two weeks. There's a local guy here in town that does custom upholstery for classic cars and his work looks fantastic. I plan on taking the car and the cover over to him and see if he can get it on and possible rework that weird looking seam on the rear corners.

I finally found an "open spot" on the calendar where my local upholstery guy could work me in. Took the binnacle and new cover to him on Wednesday afternoon and he got started on it late Thursday evening. He called me today and said it was almost finished if I wanted to come over and take a look.

I think it came out pretty decent.

That looks great! How much (ballpark) did your upholstery guy charge you to fit it? When I bought my car it didn't have a crack. On the drive home, the sun snapped it. It was crazy.

Man! That looks awesome! Did you have to send in your old binnacle first, or can you send it back as a core after. If you have to send it first how long is the turn around time? Just trying to figure out if I should wait until winter to pull the trigger or not.

Thanks

He only charged me $150.00. He said he had about 4 hours in it, including the time it took to repair the cracks in the original cover. It'll do for now until I can replace it with something like that PJ Grady binnacle above.

You will be charged for the binnacle + the core fee. You have 30 days to return the usable core. After they receive it back they will credit you the core charge.

Although this used to be the case we changed our core policy a couple years ago. Our current policy gives you 30 days after shipping the part to return a usable core before we bill out a core charge in most cases. The exceptions are if you don't have a core or we have processing issues with the card on the initial order.
