Hello List,
I just talked to someone on repainting my car. The entire car will have
to be stripped down to the stainless before it can be repainted. when the
car was painted(early 1981) something was trapped in between the coats of
paint which is now popping out. my car has little specs all over it that
look like sand is stuck in the paint. he said that they didnt let the paint
sit long enough between coats and something didnt have time to evaporate.
anyways, it must come off before it can be repainted.
My neighbor who works at an aircraft company says his mechanic can
rebrush my entire car for a very reasonable price. If I get the correct flap
brush he will do the whole car. I guess they brush some pieces on the
aircrafts also.
If that doesnt work out I will just have the car repainted. but as long
as the paint is coming off I should try to leave it stainless.
I have searched the archives and it looks like aircraft stripper works
well. I know some of you on the list have stripped dmc's before, any
recomendations? Is there a good stripper that I can get at NAPA? how long
did it take to strip the car?

Thanks in advance

Dave

DMCNews.com is far better than a carfax report for these cars.

Sigh....

Only if the owner(s) ever posted about it. I'd imagine a few thousand vins are NEVER brought up specifically on any forum.

I looked up my vin before purchasing 16510 and it was listed on DMCTalk.com

Unfortunately Sean sucks and we will never see the old data again.

two whole vins out of what 8000ish? Yes the forums can a great resource for the history of these cars, PROVIDED, they have ever been talked about.

Ok, that's gone the way of planking and is pretty tired and old now. Please ebb it.

When I was a teenager, I almost convinced my dad to loan me the money to buy a cheap delorean that was for sale in my area. This was about 12 years ago and a quick search on the DML revealed that it had been ran off the interstate into the median and there was some damage as a result of this.

So I guess there are at least 3 delorean vins on the forums.

In many States a salvage Title is very hard to "clean up". With one you can NEVER register the car to be driven on public roads. In some States the procedure to repair and reinspect a car to have a regular Title is easy and others very difficult. Even if you do manage to clean up the Title it will always be on the car's record that it was a Salvage Title at one time. This can make the car's value very low because it is just a pile of parts that happens to look like a car!
