Hi all! I'm new to this forum and as a Delorean owner.

I got 5063 from mpolzin, and will carry on the restoration. I have done exactly nothing to it yet, but knowing my own impatience, I'm gonna get it running as soon as possible, and dealing with the cosmetics along the way.

My plan is to fix the brakes, clutch and then get the engine running. From then on I'm just gonna deal with whatever comes up next.

Zachary is sharing the garage space with my Porsche 928 S4 and fiat bertone x1/9, and a couple of household daily drivers.

I'll update this thread as thing start to happen.

My first job is to get the passenger side door to open. 🤣 It appears to be stuck at the front latch.

Try closing the rear latch, and then pushing DOWN on the interior door handle. Hold the handle down, and then press the rocker to unlock the doors. Then pull up on the handle to see if you can get the door to open.

Congrats on the car!

Thanks!

I have a situation going with the door. The rear latch is locked and resting on the striker pin, not closed around it. The front one is closed onto the striker as it should. So the door is closed kinda crooked right now...

Welcome :welcome: and congrats on the new car.

I had a similar issue with the door. Had to get Toby at DMCNW to get it open..turned out one of the latches was stuck or something. After that I pulled the lock bar from the front latches.

Hope to see more of your restoration

Congrats on the buy! I am pretty new around here myself and I also bought a non running mess from an old friend. After about 150 hours of my own labor and a small fortune on parts I have a really solid car. Been worth every minute and every penny so far. This forum has been incredibly helpful as well as Mike and the staff from DMCMW. I look forward to reading about your progress. Cheers!

Have you tried getting in the car and using your right leg and knee to knock it open while lifting the handle. As long as the rods for the lock and the handle are still attached that should hammer it open. Idk you might need someone from the outside to push in on the front to eliminate some of the latch tension

What'd you have to do to get the door to to open?

What'd you have to do to get the door to to open?

I pushed the rod for the front latch to the extreme closed position, wiggled the lock rod and made sure it was all the way in the open position, and then pulled the rod to open the front latch.

Prior to that I soaked everything in wd40.

The cable from the outside door handle has so much friction it will hardly retract at all, so for now it needs a helping hand...

Hi all, after spending a few months building a new bathroom in our house, I'm finallly at the end of that project, and restoration will commence.

The valley of my engine is empty, and after some cleaning, I'm ready to start rebuilding it.

In what order do I re-assemble things?

-waterpump
-coolant plumbing
-intake
-injectors
-fuel distributor
-fuel lines
-throttle body
-air metering assembly
-throttle linkage
-spark plugs
-plug wires
-distributor
-clutch slave
-engine wiring harness

that's just me randomly listing the things that come to mind (and what I have spares for ).

Any suggestions for an optimized list for order of assembly?

Hi,

Just started, one caliper rebuilt so far.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170815/ec41b9daf81836ef8c5adc42d0fbb5e0.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170815/764a5998c9be890ee5f8fc15a6bc368c.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170815/26dbdc750d1b4d4736fe8669399a109a.jpg

Popped the pistons with compressed air.

Otherwise smooth sailing:)

I got the brakes and clutch working, so now I'm eager to get it running.

The car has not run in over 20 years, but the PO claimed it spun easily on the starter.

Should I put atf in the cylinders, to ease things up a little? Or just turn it over dry?
