How to remove speedometer from face plate?

There are 4 spring clips that hold the speedometer to the face. They push onto pins and appear to be a "one way" operation.

How are those clips removed without breaking the pins? Any suggestions?

You can squeeze the flanges on the clips with a longnose plier and they clip will let go gracefully.
