I made this one a few weeks ago but don't have any images of that process. It was a lot of cutting and test fitting to get it to this stage.

It was nice but too bland. I wanted something on it or in it but I didn't want the DMC logo, everyone does that. At the same time I made that I also made myself a keychain. I couldn't find a Back to the Future keychain I liked so I made a Flux Capacitor in the minimalist style.

I figured it would look good and match my keychain so I started with some carboard and did some cutting.

Unfortunately my scroll saw's blade snapped and I didn't have a spare. I had to do a lot of this cutting by hand which made for a lot more cleanup.

I may refine it a little more down the road or rebuild the entire piece but for now I like it.

That looks really good. Good job.
...ooh, imagine some sequentially strobing LEDs underneath it 8)

But it won't stop water getting on your throttle spool :confused0:

The spool is still covered. The holes are over nothing. The stock plate doesn't cover much of that area anyway.

I thought about the blue LEDs. I'm not sure I'm going to go that far with it. I just liked the logo it creates.

Looks great! Any plans to utilize the existing throttle cover and cutting it?

Nope, I just tossed it up on my shelf for now. I'll probably straighten it up, repaint it, and put it with my other removed-to-store bits I've removed from the car like the front speakers.

Not to sound stupid or create a tangent, but, this is bad? How?

Silly nerds...

Besides the potential for rust, it can freeze and cause the car to be impossible to drive until it warms up enough to thaw. Hence the factory recall on it.

Not as big of an issue for those of us in the Hot States.

The idea at the time of the safety recall was that condensation from the underside of your engine cover would drip down directly onto the throttle spool, continue on in and down the throttle cable sheath, then get below freezing temepratures, and randomly cause your throttle to freeze/stay in one position. The "de-ice shield" was meant to stop water from dripping down directly onto the throttle spool. The comments on this thread were meant to say they thought the holes drilled in this new cover would negate the whole purpose of the shield (which I think from the pictures is likely a fair assessment).

If you look straight down through the holes you see the mounting bolt for the throttle spool that's dead center on the engine. I guess water could run along the plate and drip on the spool but here on the Gulf coast I'm not really worried about a few drips. If it does give me trouble I'll put on the old one or make a new one without the holes.

I'll freely admit I am a geek. The BTTF keychain was one of my options. I also thought about a Portal Companion cube to match my rearview dice. ;)

I just downloaded Portal 2 through Steam, on sale. Coincidence ...

It is an excellent game. If you need a second player for the co-op game look me up on Steam. I'm Kenny_Z on there as well.

Hmm...Kdogg1 isn't me. Ah, I see. KennyZ3D is the account name, I mixed it up with the profile name. I added both of you.
