How 'bout that exhaust system?

I watched video attached to that post and I do like the sound the exhaust makes. It is an odd set up though. I'm not sure why you'd wrap the exhaust around like that instead of a straight shot out the back. It does make a lot of room around the engine.

I've been down the road in it, it does sound good. (read good as LOUD)

Do you know the details of his modifications? Did he have to modify the rear bumper?

Not too sure if he comes on here, but I will speak to him & report back.

Nothing is more ridiculous than a DeLorean with a flip up head unit. I can say that because I have one and HATE how it blocks the damn vents. Otherwise, nice car!

True. I'm not a huge fan of those screens, either. I don't hate them, but I wouldn't want one. I just love the strange exhaust setup. I wonder if it was an easy fitting...

I dunno, I've got one too and I find that I really don't need it that much unless I'm parked at a show and playing the BTTF movie for all to see. But I don't really don't use it much while driving. You must use the GPS function more than I do.

Bandit drew my attention to this thread.

I bought the car ten years ago (next month) and the exhaust on the car then was essentially a prototype of this one. It utilised the original DeLorean manifolds, had custom pipework to 3" diameter silencers/mufflers.

The above system can be seen/heard on the video below. Loud, but a slightly different note to the system that replaced it:-

I went to the DeLorean UK event in Norfolk in June 2006 and whilst in convoy the exhaust decided to get a but louder, as per below:-

Once home and up on the ramp at my local mechanic we could see that the original system (which had been developed by a company called Prism in Herfordshire) had used steel pipework between the cast iron stock manifolds and the stainless silencers/mufflers. The steel work had clearly been welded up numerous times over the years and was now in a condition beyond saving. Luckily my mechanic knew a specialist fabricator a few units up who came over and offered to duplicate the system out of stainless steel. A few enhancements were made to the design. The cast iron manifolds were scrapped and instead stainless steel 21" headers replaced them. They in turn were mated to 3" diameter stainless steel pipework down to the new 3.5" diameter stainless silencers. No modifications were needed to the car to fit this system. The end result was noticeably more noise and the car definately surged more too. I did a Tunnel run and someone had a decibel reader.... when revved up to 6500 rpm and the reader being around 2 metres from the pipes it went off the scale at over 126db http://dmctalk.org/images/icons/icon11.png

The fabricator no longer does exhausts but my system could be duplicated as it requires no modifications to the car at all.

I've also done a shock absorber upgrade to Protech:-

stainless looking finish (aluminium), twin adjustable on the rears, oil filled and remarkable build quality backed up with a 3 year warranty.

Yeah, I saw that thread. Those ARE nice shocks!
For the exhaust, was the first graph showing HP to the wheels or at the crank, as it is 148hp vs. the others at about 115hp? Also, I'm glad to hear that there are no mods necessary to fit this system. What I would be interested in doing would be fitting the Special T SS exhaust/header system but with the same style mufflers you've got + cat delete. Because after hearing what yours sounds like, it will be hard to live with anything else. Do you have any advice as to what brand mufflers to use, or about fitting? I'm not too sure what the pipe diameter is on the Special T system....
