Hey all. I know this has been covered in the past but I don't remember where. I know there were seven cars including the fiberglass model and the 2 vw conversions used in the films. While I'm curious which ones they all were. I'm mainly interested in the hero car from part one. Any help with this would be appreciated.

The one at Universal Hollywoood is 5261. It needs dire attention. Kevin Pike the guy who helped build it visited it a few months ago and posted detailed pics on his FB page.

This is what I have collected over the years. I'm missing a few VIN's, so someone could maybe fill in the gaps? And if there are faults in it, please let me know ...

From BTTF I:

- the A-car (VIN#05261) was used in the Twin Pines Mall chase scene and is currently on display at Universal Studios Hollywood on the tram tour.
- the B-car (VIN#.....) "Amblin Car" was stored at Amblin until 1989 when they used it for part II & III. It was fitted with heat shielding and fuel 'nozzles' for the 'tyre trail' flame scenes. It got fake hover wheels for BTTF II that were used when it was hovering behind Biff's car at ground level. Unfortunatly, it was destroyed by the train at the end of BTTF III. The body panels were reassembled and are on display at the ceiling in Planet Hollywood. Some pieces where put on 2 replicas built by Jay Ohrberg. One is rotting at Universal Studios Hollywood in the backlot, the other is in decent shape at the Hollywood Casino in Tunica MS (on DeLorean VIN#04765).
- the C-car (VIN#.....) was cut up for the interior shots and rotted on the backlot for years when it was eventually destroyed by Universal. :mad1:

From BTTF II & III:

- VIN#06475 'Oxnard Car" was the hero car build for BTTF II & III and is currently on display at Universal Studios Florida. This car still has the welded rigs on the bottom for a second set of wheels that were used for the 'wheelie' stunt scene in 1885 (BTTF III).
- Fibreglass DeLorean #1 was left for years in a warehouse and finally destroyed by Universal.
- Fibreglass DeLorean #2 was destroyed during first day of filming (NOT SURE ABOUT THIS, SOME SITES SAYS TRUE, SOME SAY FALSE).
- Offroader #1 sat on the Universal Studio Hollywood backlot for years when it went to Japan on display. This car was then purchased from Universal Studios by "ScreenUsed" and completely restored. More info at http://www.bttf3delorean.com/
- Offroader #2 (VIN#01076) sat on the Universal Studio Hollywood backlot for years when a company called "Tom Talmon Studios" used parts off of this car, including the rear deck/vents to create the 'Universal Studios Japan' car. Whereabout of this car are unknow to me ... Maybe someone knows?

Here are a few of the pictures I have collected over the year. They are not mine, I found them on the internet, so if someone wants them removed, just let me know ...

Great post and pics Andy! Nice job. The BTTF 3 Desert Car (you refer to it as #1) is the car we just purchased in December of 2011 at the Profiles in History auction in Beverly Hills, CA. The vin # is 4689, an October of 81 build car. We are proud to own it and plan to share it with anyone who would like to see it. We will be attending the DCS in Florida in June and the car will be there! BTTF.com just posted this press release.....

Glad to hear one of those time machines has a better home now. Are you planning to keep it as it is or restore it to a regular car?

why are the front grills and emblems always missing? Do you suppose they get stolen as personal mementoes?

Thanks for the VIN! I've been trying to keep track of all DeLoreans that where used in the BTTF trilogy for a few years now ....

Anybody can shed a light on the rest of the missing pieces?

- what was the VIN on the B- and C-car?
- was there actually a second fibreglass DeLorean made?
- where is VIN#01076, the second Offroader or 'Desert Car'?

It's nice to see that the 'Desert Car #1' has gone to a good home! Are you actually planning on driving it? Because I can imagine it isn't easy with that nose pointing to the sky ...

Thanks! This car will stay as-is, it is already restored to the way it was in the movie, just the way we like it! We have two other D's, another time machine and a completely stock original one to drive. This one, I hate to say, is a trailer queen.....

Hello Andy! I wish I could shed some light on the other vin #'s, but right now I have no idea. It is great to see that someone has taken the time to get this information and record it. We are very proud to own the "Desert Car #1", and I still am in awe that it is actually sitting in our garage. As much as I hate to say it, the only driving this will be doing is off and on a trailer....you are right about the nose, and that hood box does a great impression of a wall! It does run and drive though. It has a 1971 vintage VW Beetle drivetrain, a 1600cc dual port head example that originally put down a whopping 60hp. There are a few modifications to the motor, like a different Weber carb etc, all done when the car had the sand rail, off road chassis installed by Conejo Off Road for the movie. It also has a full roll cage, tied into the chassis, and a five point harness for the driver. They wanted MJF to be safe! Check out the website dedicated to the restoration of the car here www.bttf3delorean.com or our website for all of the cars here www.88mphtimemachine.com Thanks!
Best regards,
Patrick and Bill

I think 01076 was in Roscoe IL, but it may now be in the UK (Cars of the stars museum), but I'm not 100% sure

{Just realised that I may have double counted this car in my 65 car total - oops}

I've been told too that the original Desert Car #2 was in the Cars of the Stars museum in the UK at the moment, but I never actually believed it. For sure, can this be the original one from the movie?

I've collected a few pictures of the UK car over the last few years; is this the actual one they used in the movie? I've always thought this was a replica?

I remember the topic in the old forums when it was mentioned that a DeLorean with ugly colored seats was converted into a time machine due to their obsession. Then someone there, not here, bought it in hopes of unconverting it back. I guess that was one instance; this car had much better care. Hmmm...

Hmm, well, anyway, I was curious. :giggle:

I have never really got to the bottom of this. There were two COTS museums for a while in the UK (one in England and one in Scotland) and each one had a BTTF car (or possible the same one moving around - not sure). One of the museums has now closed, so I'm not sure what the real story is any more.

Actually, I have no idea at this point (I'm from Belgium!). I have a few pictures of a BTTF-DeLorean (see first post) 'rotting' away in the backlot of the Universal Studios, but I have no date on these photos, so I don't know ...

Anybody here has access to the backlot of Universal Studios? I would very much like to know if there's still a DeLorean there somewhere ...

The car is indeed still on the backlot as my girlfriend grabbed a picture of it on the studio tour in August. Not a great picture, but
was taken on 22/8/2012 :)

VIN 5261 AKA the "A car" is the only original car remaining from part I and is the car that is currently being restored by the Time Machine Restoration team.

There is another DeLorean sitting on the back lot of universal hollywood that is a replica built by Jay Ohrberg. The car itself was not used in any of the three films but was built with a few original parts from the locomotive destroyed "B-car".

The car at Universal Studios Florida was on screen briefly in part III to perform the train wheelie stunt and is also the car that rolls across the train intersection at the end of part III.

This is the Ohrberg replica car and is not screen used.

Wasn't this car also used in the BTTF ride footage? I was told that years ago, not sure if it's true.

I'm confused ...

VIN#05261 has always been on the tram tour (see first picture) and is an original BTTF-used car (the A-car!). Since this car is being restored now and was taken away, then wich car is now on the tram tour? Could it be the Jay Ohrberg replica (see second picture), according to the missing grill?

Can someone shed a light on this?

Yes that is correct. The USF car was used for filming the ride footage.

Both the A car and Ohrberg replica have been displayed on the tram tour at various points in the past. Both cars have also been parked in front of the ride entrance.

There are some very obvious differences between the two cars depending on the point in time at which photos were taken. Most of the props on the Ohrberg replica are close approximations of the actual parts used on the hero car.... The vents were also bolted directly to the fiberglass engine cover instead of a fabricated aluminum deck. There are lots of details in the interor that vary as well.

Of the two phots you posted, the first one is the A car sitting on the tram tour route. The second photo shows the Ohrberg replica parked behind the tram garage. The grille was taken off the A car in the past (as well as the Ohrberg car) so that is not necessarily a good indicator of which car is which.

Currently the A car is being restored and the Ohrberg replica is taking its place on the tram tour.

Thanks for the explanation! It's hard to keep up with all these different BTTF-cars, replica or real ...

By the way, anybody happens to know the VIN on the Jay Ohrberg-replica?

Has anyone been there before? It looks about an hour or so from Crystal Lake (DMCMW). There is a movieland exhibit, but a lot more too including a few JFK and Parkland autos and historic items. Heck, it says they have the Wagon Queen Family Truckster from Vacation and that's worth going right there!!

Anyone seen it themselves? How is it?

Sorry to resurrect a 6-year old thread, but would anybody happen to know if the BTTF DeLorean in the Hollywood Casino in Tunica is still there? According to my information this should be VIN#04765, but now somebody from Phoenix says (on a certain FB Group) he owns that perticular DeLorean and that it was in a field in Colorado since around 1993.

Can anybody shed a light on this?
