sigh...

its amazing how much money he can milk out his mindless following. i was disillusioned with Lucas years ago. i love the original episodes IV, V, and VI, but i think he lost his touch somewhere.

more refreshing, however, is "Star Wars Uncut," a compilation of fan-submitted versions of "A New Hope" spliced together in a continuous feature-length movie:

I don't mind the 3D, sure why not?

..now when he starts changing lines and modifying past established scenes, that's where I think he does wrong.

BTW, did anyone catch this news from George last week:

"George Lucas has been updating and tweaking the Star Wars story ever since it hit the big screen, but in a new profile, he says the series’ impossible-to-please fans have stripped his desire of wanting to add to his fictional universe. “Why would I make any more when everybody yells at you all the time and says what a terrible person you are?” he says."

Fine, if you won't play my way I'll just take my toys and leave. Hmmmmph.

Actually the article ended more optimistic:

"Lucas won’t be making any more Star Wars films, but there’s still talk of a TV series that covers the time between the end of the original series and the second trilogy of “prequels” released in the late '90s to mid-2000s."

"impossible-to-please fans"?

all he needed to do was nothing. the fans loved how the originals were made on a shoestring budget, with props made from thrift stores (e.g., vintage camera flash handles for Lightsabers™, etc.). obviously he couldnt leave well enough alone.

i feel so sorry for the pouty billionaire.

Two people come to mind when I think about George Lucas: Bob Ross and Steven Spielberg.

I can't find the original quote, but while Bob Ross encouraged people to experiment and not worry, he did have one rule that once you sign a painting, you're done. You can't go back and retouch it, add anything to it, or modify it in any way. If you do, you'll always ruin it.

Spielberg always comes to mind thanks to this flick:

In the Director's Commentary on the DVD Spielberg talks about audience responce to this, which albeit made for TV, was his first feature film. He noted not only the reaction that people had, but something that he never imagined: The audience's interpretation. He says it far more eliquently than I can, but basicly spelled out that while he made a movie for audiences to view, he had no idea as to what they'd see once they processed it through the lenses of their own interpretations. And to each viewer it could be something totally different. But most important of all was that while he had a vision for this film and was able to realize it once editing was complete and he viewed it, the what audiences saw was their own vision and it became an entirely different film. As such it was no longer "his" film. It belongs to each person who views it with and in their own unique way.

Failure to understand these two key points is what killed Lucas' reputation. He took away the viewer's movie and replaced it with another. Doesn't matter if was even improved or not from a cinematic standpoint, he took that film away from people.

A million views in 72 hours, apparently. Pretty good.

i saw that and almost mentioned it... but i wanted to see how long it would take until someone pointed it out.

probably the only time you will see Commander Data and a DeLorean in association with Star Wars.

Is that South Park episode almost going to come true in real life? They've foreseen a lot of things.
