I think I'm finally going to be able to attend the Open House since I'm close enough to drive.

Are any of you folks I know planning on going too? It's always much more fun to attend these things with friends.

Great job on the scheduling of this event James. The weather should be a lot more tolerable in October.

And Haddad as a guest speaker, very intriguing.

It's in the link... $179. I think that's how much I paid for registration & activities at the last DCS I went to, but I guess that has been some time ago!

Hopefully I will be able to register to attend, not sure if I want to fly in or drive.

I can verify that the Mariott Springhill Suites in Houston is a really nice Hotel, its less than two years old and the suites are really modern.

About 40% full in the first 2.5 weeks of open registration; just 90 spots left...

In addition to his biography, did you know John DeLorean wrote another book? This book will be making it's debut at the DMC Open House event, too!

Officially 40% sold out for the event, with 93 days until registration cutoff - we do expect a sellout again this year for the event.

Many of you know the story of DeLorean owner Kyle Franklin and his wife Amanda who made up "Franklin's Flying Circus" (http://www.franklinairshow.com/) and were in a tragic accident during a performance earlier this year. Amanda was severely injured and spent 76 days in intensive care before she passed away.

At each Open House event, we've held a raffle to benefit a particular cause, and this year we felt the "Kyle and Amanda Franklin Fund (http://www.moonlightfund.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=blog&id=6&Itemid=10)" would be the best beneficiary. In addition to a raffle, we will also have a silent and live auction.

I just today received signed copies of Stainless Steel Illusion, Hard Driving, Grand Delusions, and On a Clear Day You Can See General Motors. These and other items will part of the event - I hope those of you that are coming will help support one of our own through this unique opportunity.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Regards,

James Espey

Very cool, the mysterious Children's books John wrote near the end of his life. I recall John's widow Sally telling me about these books a few times. That should be a fun addition to the Open House.

WOW!
What a great show!!!
Friday night started with meeting up with old friends at the hotel and DMCH
where they unveiled the new ELECTRIC Delorean and new resin-infused under-body that weighs only 250lbs.

Saturday was amazing with Bill Haddad telling some amazing stories about John Z. Delorean.

http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/293461_10150358740557948_806842947_8127250_1598160 361_n.jpg

There were some mixed emotions because he said some really disparaging things about John, my favorite of which was when he said "John used to call black people [admin edit]n-word[/admin edit]"....the whole room twitched, and then slowly turned around to look at
the black cameraman who returned a smile.
HILARIOUS!!!!

http://photos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/310963_10150415955396779_717491778_9864233_2883470 24_a.jpg
Here I am posing with Bill.

We did tech sessions and tours all day, lots of great information.

http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/314526_2506629863451_1184169524_33057966_207655786 3_n.jpg
Here, Bill and Tony teach us about stainless repair...

I brought my latest Delorean Time Machine ( build #8 )
http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/307750_128188290618298_125714114199049_92599_19451 254_n.jpg
Here it is being admired and photographed by Gary Weaver, who also brought his Time Machine as did Paul Nigh.

http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/316306_128188360618291_125714114199049_92601_22454 2374_n.jpg
He must have really like it, because he took a lot of photos!!!

Later that night we had a great BBQ dinner and rode the mechanical bull.
The high light of my night was the lap dance I got from James Espy for $5.
He sat on my lap while I stuffed cash down his shirt.
**(someone please post video of this!!!)**

When we got back to the hotel we were STILL hungry (and a little drunk)
so we footed it to the JACK IN THE BOX but only the drive thru was open,
luckily Kevin had his INVISIBLE CAR so we all hopped in and placed an order.

http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/297906_2508843638794_1184169524_33059989_137255909 0_n.jpg
(me and James in the back seat of course)

Sunday was awesome at the race track event where we got to race our cars on the track, surprisingly the ELECTRIC Delorean is the FASTEST!!!

http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/313461_128144840622643_125714114199049_92424_42568 5289_n.jpg

Myself, Paul Nigh and Gary Weaver decided to race our three Time Machines,
I lapped them both twice and ran circles around them!!!
Of course, I grew up racing go-karts so I guess I had an advantage!!

Here is a video of my first run on the track.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRoZ8pXeD-o

On the way home back to to Dallas we stopped in Huntsville and the Texas Prison museum....

http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/318357_10150415631831779_717491778_9861407_2092479 611_n.jpg

I think I am going to build a replica of this chair!!!

Anyway, thanks Stephen and James for another great show!!!
I had an awesome time with all my old friends and I look forward to seeing you all again next summer in Orlando!!

I didn't think to take a photo of the new binnacle sample, but I checked it out and it is the same plastic texture and color as the reproduction dashes, so it will match up to that perfectly.
It is totally ABS injection molded plastic and I think it looks great, at least you won't have to ever worry about it shrinking or expanding and cracking up, it is light weight and the color shouldn't ever fade.
I'd buy one, I'm sure I will!!!

Amazing how if you selectively word something it has a totally different meaning isn't it? How utterly predictable and typically pathetic of you Robert. Just how much of a zoom lens did you have to use to get those pics. Were you sitting behind the window or something? :)

In truth - here is why I was taking pictures of all three time machines at the show.

http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150323470342212.341307.584667211&type=1&l=14380566dd

As for the "race" it was hardly anything but. Paul and I talked about it before you made your way to the track. We thought it would be nice for the show to have a shot of all three Time Machines on the track together. YOU were the only one who thought it was a race and actually treated it as such. Some of us had to actually drive our cars home - you on the other hand took a clients car and hot dogged it with the pedal all the way to the floor. Just watching you nearly fishtail off the track a couple times thanks to all the weight on the back of your car was MORE than enough reason to never want to ever race a time machine conversion.

Congrats to you

What is the point of getting on a race track if you aren't going to test the limits of your car?

Black and gray will be available at the same time - we're ordering a 40/60% split favoring the gray. Pricing still beign worked out, but probably around the range of what they cost when NOS was available - $350 or so.

I have experimented with vinyl paints and they worked out well.
I had a dash that was in good physical condition but badly discolored, so I removed it
and painted it with a vinyl paint and it came out great!
So if the colors were off a little, you could use this method to match them up.
Just a suggestion....
However I'm sure they will do their best to make sure they are color matched.
I'm sure I will end up ordering some for my cars.

I see what you did here, very cool.
It is, as you would say, "interesting" to see them all together.
No offense to Paul but his car is apples to oranges next to ours.
I think it is neat to compare the "Plutonium" and "Mr.Fusion" versions.
Both of our cars are in various levels of finished and unfinished.
It shows where our heads are at when it comes to which details we each
think is important.
For me, it is wires (color, placement, girth)
and I think for you it is screws (exact heads) and hoses.
All in all, our cars are very similar, which is a compliment to each.
We differ in certain ideas of color choices on parts, like my blue boxes and your gray,
or my white neon and your blue, but it's all about preferences and interpretations.

If this were to be my own personal car I would have used all genuine metal parts
for all the props, this car is being built for a US Marine on a tight budget.
I quite frankly gave him a lot of upgrades he never paid for to make sure his car
was as good as it could be for the money he is paying.
We put most of our efforts into the car itself, which I think payed off by the way
it performed on the track.

Glad you had a great time!!!

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Wait a second. So I'm supposed to believe John Z. De Lorean, a guy who pissed off people @ GM for wanting to pursue Affirmative Action to help get more blacks employed there, as well as was known for meeting with politicians and others who supported Equal Rights in the 60's, and who also even dated black women (https://secure.wireimage.com/ItemListings.aspx?cbi=52014&igi=107468&nbc1=1) was a racist?

I never said this car was "screen accurate"
Out of all the cars used in the movies, NONE of them actually had a 95MPH speedo,
that shot came from a close up of a modified cluster with a decal on it and they
got a close up.

To get this thread back on track (not that I don't like to see Videobob and the BTTF conversions duke it out), here's my take on the Open House.

First off, great job Stephen and James for putting on a fantastic show. I only attended the Saturday activities, but thought all the displays, guest speakers, etc. were top notch.

- Guest Speaker - Haddad - I'm a huge DeLorean historian, so hearing another version of someone who was in the company and bunkers with JZD was a lot of fun. Definite controversy to some things discussed, but always fun to hear things from another person's perspective. Great addition to the show James!

- Stage 3 car I discuss in the Stage 3 thread, but that was one Hell of a fun car to drive. Highly recommend to those who need the extra speed and rush in their D's.

- Electric car was very cool. I think it is a great idea, and the press it is getting around the world is incredible. The conversion was very slick, and judging by the numbers (speed wise, etc), this could be completely in line with keeping with the sensible and ethical sports car JZD set out to make.

- The new pontoon design was very slick and brings new technology into the car. I assume the reduced weight brought by this design will help improve distance for the electric car. Wouldn't hurt to help increase speed in new builds that take advantage of the Stage III as well.

- The dinner / auction. The mechanical bull was great, seeing James fly off of that thing was priceless, as was Don Steger's ride on the bull. The take a picture with JZD was a very fun and cute addition (this was accomplished using a green screen - oops, I wore a green shirt). The auction was great and I was happy to see the community put forth great items and cash for such a good cause.

Overall the show was a smashing success, and it was great to catch up with old friends and meet new ones. One of the small highlights for me was meeting Manson, the designer of the Hot Wheels DeLorean. He is a truly great fan of the car and it was fantastic to meet him and hear that he used my site and my car as inspiration to model the car from.

I look forward to the next DCS show and the next open house. Pics. from the various Saturday activities discussed above can be found below, enjoy!

I think the "Blue Drivetrain" comment was prompted by the photos above
Vegas' comment, photos by Tamir, of the DMC EV with Blue Motor Case.

I doubt this would be the same test mule for the Stage III or other project
prototypes, since the Stage III and EV use completely different drivetrains.

Maybe Stephen likes Blue or maybe it could just be a coincidence.

That would be correct. I was looking at the EV's motor and transaxle and noticed they were the same color as the Supercharged Engine.

Two more questions:

On the new Underbodies, on those areas where there is the white honey comb, are those areas translucent by any chance?

Also will the underbodies be available for sale on their own for people that wish to retrofit their older DMC-12s?

I think it's a coincidence, and is likely the color chosen by the manufacturer of the electric motor. It's definitly a different car as both were there side by side!

Even better than that. They are translucent and according to Cameron can be done in a variety of color combinations. If I understood correctly, you could even do it with no black gellcoat at all.

I didn't think of it till Saturday evening, but we really should have taken a pic of that pontoon with a florescent light underneath - it would have looked awesome.

There are a ton of custom possibilities with this new underbody...

Especially as the pontoon shape is very similar to the arrow in the BACK TO THE FUTURE logo. I think of a few guys that could have some fun with that. :)

Looking at the pics made me think, I didn't hear how many concours competitors there were, who they were, what the VINS were, and how did they do? Just curious.

What are these guys looking at? It looks like a male mold of a fender - as if you would use it for handlaying a fiberglass replica of a fender?

This is from Dunmurry, and came along with the molds/cutting/drilling jigs. It appears to be made to securely hold a fender (left, in this instance) using a the suction cups and vacuum so that it can be blended either by hand or a tool as if it were on a car without actually being on a car. You might ask your guy down in the Republic who worked at Lappele if he's ever seen anything like it.

The existence of this piece, and it's provenance has led me to think that perhaps there was some notion "back in the day" as Consolidated was packing things up that they knew there was a shortage of left front fenders and grabbed this piece thinking it was something more than than it was. No other pieces of tooling like this exist in our possession.

There were three DeLoreans up for the Certification Awards in Houston.

Eric Pool (member of the DeLorean Midwest Connection club) received
the Stainless Certification and the JZD Award for his Concours DeLorean.

The front fender fixture was a factory fixture that was used to prep and
grain (re-grain) fenders. Fender was "held" using four suction cups.

I spoke to Dave Swingle about this fixture at the DMCH Open House and
he said this piece was found with a bunch of other factory fixtures, but
this was the only panel fixture found. It was thought there was at least
one fixture like this for each panel, but no details to confirm.

Later,
Rich W.

On behalf of Stephen Wynne, and all the staff of DeLorean Motor Company and our dealers, thank you again for participating at our recent Open House. Thanks to you all we had another sold out event!

The Friday night "Art of the DeLorean" reception highlighted the work of eight artists' works featuring the DeLorean and was punctuated by the unveiling of the new, modern, DeLorean underbody and of course the DMCev Electric DeLorean.

Saturday at DMC was "tech" day, with several different technical seminars covering stainless repair, brakes, roof channels, and warehouse tours. Former DMC executive William Haddad gave a very controversial, thought-provoking, speech that people are *still* talking about on the DeLorean Mailing List!

Several new products were introduced on Saturday, as well, including: Stage III supercharger (now available!); modern integrated fuel pump/sender module; exact reproduction LH and RH water pump hoses; and replacement side-mirror switch. Two items that were planned to be shown, but just didn't make it in time include new, DMC-logo reproduction windshields and the new, reproduction fiberglass front fascia. More on all these parts can be seen at:

Saturday evening, at the H&H Ranch, many attendees had their photos taken "with" John DeLorean through "Catch the Moment" and their green screen technology, providing a lasting memory of the event. Several attendees went for a ride on the mechanical bull - those who landed hard have a different kind of "lasting memory" of event - ouch!

On a more serious note, the generosity of the DeLorean community in attendance at our event cannot be overlooked - the Saturday night raffle, which raised $2,156.00, were sent directly to DeLorean owner and airshow performer Kyle Walker. Kyle and his 25 year old wife Amanda suffered significant injuries following an apparent engine failure at the 2011 Air Fiesta in Brownsville, TX. She was burned over 60% of her body and tragically died on May 27, 2011. Kyle, who also suffered significant burns, is recovering from his injuries. Kyle has asked us to express his sincere thanks and appreciation to the attendees for their selfless generosity.

On Sunday, many of the attendees took the opportunity to come out to our private track event at Houston Motorsports Park. Rides and drives in the supercharged Stage III DeLorean were going all day long, and many people got the chance to ride around the track in the DMCev, as well. Attendees who brought their DeLorean to the track also got the chance to get in as many laps around the track as they wanted, as well.

Our event photographer, Kevin Abato, shot more than 2,000 photos over the weekend and has carefully and expertly edited those down to the photos that you can view in the gallery link below:

http://tinyurl.com/dmchopenhouse2011

Thank you, Kevin, for taking so many wonderful photos to really capture the essence of the event - great people having a great time sharing the car that brought us all together!

Again, thank you all for participating in our event. We look forward to seeing you all again next summer in Orlando at the DeLorean Car Show 2012!

We organized the raffle, and donated some items, but many items were donated from our suppliers and also from those within the DeLorean community:

Manson Cheung (awildermode) donated several cool Hot Wheels items.

Skip Vaughn donated a beautifully embroidered DeLorean jacket and some of his custom cupholders.

Bill and Rose Ballard donated some interesting etched glass and stainless items.

Gary Weaver donated some BTTF props, including a Flux Capacitor

Paul Nigh donated some DVD's from his Fireball Run event

Microsoft donated a copy of Forza 4

The DeLorean Museum donated signed copies of Stainless Steel Ilusion, Hard Driving, On a Clear Day You Can See General Motors and Grand Delusions.

Bosch donated a cooler and clock

DMC Texas donated a $500 gift certificate

Kevin Abato donated a set of prints of his photography

Ken Koncelik donated a DCS 2012 Registration

Ernest Cline donated a signed copy of his book "Ready Player One"

It was a lot of fun, and for a very good cause.

Give.Me.A.Break.
Boy, I'm really glad I didn't show up there. That would certainly have been one time that I would NOT have held my tongue.

Bill Haddad, I kindly rebuff your claims and require some proof.

Gonna have to agree.

Does anyone have a video of the Bill Haddad talk. I just finished reading his book and it would be neat to see what he said during the open house.
