Hello DMCTalk,

If you would like to have your user name changed (to real names), please post here what you would like it changed to.

Also, if you would be so kind to post your correct location (example: Boston, MA instead of "right behind you..."), that would be great as well so we can help when you need assistance or advice on something.

Thanks!

-Mike

Not to go OT, but what was the origin of that username, if you don't mind me asking.

Just a comment, if you change a user name, it screws up the app on a smart phone that will not let you change your user name just password. I'm still trying to figure out how to change the app, may have to delete the existing app and install a new one with the new username.

To expand on Sean's point (heh) before you ask, the idea is for requests to change your username to your real name.

My request in post #13 wasn't processed (probably because Steve derailed the thread after my post). Can you still do that or is it full names only? Thanks.

ccurzio
12-28-2012, 11:51 AM
It doesn't have to be a full name, but the idea is that you'd be changing your online name from a username to a real name. Chris4099 is still a pseudonym handle, really. Seeing as how profiles already have a slot for a VIN displayed in every post, that's kinda redundant anyway. ;)

I took care of it for you, but we'd prefer this to not be a "I'm tired of my username and I want another one" thread. :)

Wow. Just saw this! I knew my username was pretty much void now; just hadn't made it down here yet! Guess I needed someone to light a fire under me to get this done...

My last name is a bit on the long side, so can I go with "Mike F"?

Thanks!

Is it possible to change my name to "Rob Greenhaw"?

I've sort of always felt I was slighting Rob Grady for simply having "Rob", plus it's not unique enough.

Or if handles are allowed again, simply "Spectral Entity" is acceptable as I use that on other forums.

I think we're starting to stray slightly from the original intent here, so I would like to clarify. This isn't meant for username changes to something different, it's specifically for username changes if you want to change your username to your real name.

I think he means the "NYS" part of his username.....

I didn't think this was the case since his current user location is "Augusta, GA" and there was no coinciding request for the username change. But if Dermot is correct, the better option would be to remove "_NYS" from the username entirely to keep in line with the intentions of the thread.

David, if you can clarify that would help. Thanks. :)

Are we not allowed to change usernames? Or has no one simply wanted to change their username since 2014?
The only thread I found was this one... http://dmctalk.org/showthread.php?3254-User-Name-Change-REQUESTS
And it only states to change it to your REAL name... though there was a little rule bending going on there.

Or is there a way to change it on your own now that I have perhaps been overlooking?

Thanks
Josh

Dangermouse

I don't think you can change it by yourself but anyone that has asked either in that thread or via PM seems to be successful.

Of course, I think "Josh" is taken :)

Just like Wade, I discovered that on some forums the accepted way of spelling was already taken. Thus I used the spelling from my license plate. In PA we are limited to 7 letters. I intended to enter PARZIVL on the online form, but due to the online form's inherent lag, coupled with my constant habit of spelling it correctly, I wound up with PARZVAL. I totally liked that better. So there you go!

Now sure, you can be Anorak, or hey even Aech or Art3mis. We can meet in my Basement.
But I wouldn't choose Sorrento or you may find yourself with no friends. That, and you may get told daily that you and the other sux0rz can go f*ck a duck. lol

Slight editorial here, if they won't use some form of a real name as a "handle", folks should at least have it in the signature line. Not looking for full legal names, just something a bit more personalized than an abstract movie character / cartoon/ game etc. name.

This goes a long way toward a somewhat friendlier online atmosphere, not to mention a bit less awkwardness when meeting someone later in real life or on the phone. I've always found it pretty strange dealing with a customer on the phone, then seeing the conversation written up online 20 minutes later and realizing "hey it's THAT guy".

It's also useful after a name change to have "formerly know as ....." above the avatar until the rest of us catch up :).

Good point, Dave. I usually have my avatar be my own picture for that very reason, though in this case I felt having my own car as the avatar is acceptable.. however I need to have ME with the car I guess. I figured that out from a truck club I'm in. I went to an event and saw a guy I knew from the forums because HE had his picture as himself and not his truck. Everyone else usually had their trucks. You never see the owner with the truck at those things. So I changed mine to be a picture of me. In this instance I will add the tagline. Eventually I will add me and the car together as an Avatar.
