I ordered a blank from DMC, but is there anything special about the original key? Is there any coded chip, or any other reason that any local locksmith couldnt copy the origainal key from the DMC blank, or from any stock blank as far as that goes?

Nope. As long as you have an X29 blank anyone can cut it.

The "original" key has a molded head with DMC on it. The early cars had keys with a light built into the head. DMCH can now sell you a blank with the light in it for the newer 1 key system. There is no transponder chip or resistor built in for anti-theft. No one was doing that back in '81. The code is under the headliner over the driver's side door.

Early cars Had DOOR keys that were illuminated.

The ILCO blank for the ignition is a VO73 I think the X29 is the door of the 2 key system.

If that's true then it's my mistake - I forgot about the two key system honestly :(
