For whatever reason I had a flashback to a friend I went to school with in grade 9. He was coming to Canada from Hong Kong and his English translation name turned out to be "Allan Key". I always thought that was pretty funny (in terms of wrenches), and maybe the guy at the immigration office was in an odd mood that day when they were giving names out.

Do you have any funny names of friends or neighbors you know? I can't claim this one to be either true or someone I know, but naming your kid "Jed I Knight" is pretty hilarious.

Same story, a kid at my high school came in a Russian exchange program. I don't recall his real name but his romanized one was Horace Balls. No joke - Harry Balls. Poor kid.

Our names here are quite different, so not funny if I translate them, however there were a few good ones.

A fairly common name I hear in Hawaii is "Abcde" pronounced Absedee. It's unique.

Sometimes I wonder if parents just don't think things through before naming their kids...

Back in the 80s when I was doing phone sales for theater ticket subscription packages in the Buffalo New York area I had a customer on the phone named Egbert Virgin. Must have been pure hell living with a name like that...

Growing up my neighbor had two friends that were sisters. Dusty Sheets and Polyester Sheets. She never went by her full name. We all called her Polly.

I just bought a new Gateway (Acer) computer. In the pile of papers is a "certificate of green-ness and recyclability" or some such foofoo, but it's signed by Acer's head of such things.

The name is "Easy Lai". With a signature.

They used to page the maintenance guy all the time where I used to work; "Mike Hawk, please call..." We all got used to it, but new hires and visitors always got a good laugh. Oh yeah, we had a tech by the first name Gene. "Hi Gene" we used to say. My wife used to work with a lady with the last name Hardick....

Reminds me of some Russell Peters stand up. If you've never heard his material, it's hilarious. He does quite a bit on names.

A bit off topic I guess-
When we lived in Martinez, GA, the mail box on one side of us said "Gay", the other "Butts" (they still do)...One Halloween kids put a sloppy white lettered "Harry" on our box. The guy across the street thought I was taking too long to fix it and called the cops...it was there when I moved ~2 years later.
