Indianapolis Motor Speedway 2nd Annual Celebration of Automobiles featuring Delorean!

This year, DeLorean is one of the featured marque at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Celebration of Automobiles. Entry in this show is by invitation-only and we plan on pulling out all the stops. With the combined participation of the IN DMC Club and the DeLorean Club o...f Ohio, we hope to have 30 (yes, I said THIRTY) DeLoreans in attendance. Did I forget to mention that we’ll have FACTORY support? Many of you have met Dave and Julee Swingle from DMC Midwest, who will be attending. Dave is planning on bringing DMC Houston’s Stage 3 car and (drum roll please) the new Electric DeLorean!

The cost of the show is $50 per car. For your $50, you receive parking, gate entrance, a dash plaque and the opportunity to DRIVE A LAP AROUND THE TRACK OF THE IMS. With this much stainless steel, be sure to bring your sunglasses. There will also be plenty of other exotics to see and things to do, if you or your guest gets tired of looking at DeLoreans… (As if!)

To ensure we’re parked as a group, we will be registering everyone at the same time. Please mail your check for $50, made payable to the IMS Automobile Festival, no later than April 20th to the following address:

We will meet early Saturday morning at the Boone County Fairgrounds in Lebanon, and drive as a group (9AM DONT BE LATE) to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. (Only 30 minutes away) Should anyone have minor mechanical difficulties, we will have tools available.

I did not know about this discounted rate until calling to book a room. The lady asked me if I was a part of a block of rooms. I did not think so until she said the IN-DMC Indy Group. So I said Yes and got the discounted rate of $89.99. Normal rates are $100 but online the cheapest available is $154.00.

Hello All,



I want to send out a thank you to all of you that participated in our IMS event. You all made it a smash hit!! I have already gotten” thank you’s” from IMS and have been told that we were welcome back as they very impressed with the Delorean outcome and it participants. Its success has kindled my fire for running the national show. It has been suggested that, as DCS is every other year, we should actively participate in this IMS event every off year making a “national Delorean event” every year. What do you all think? Should we turn this in to a bi-annual tradition?

We at IN-DMC are having an “After Action Meeting” to create an official “After Action Report” this coming Saturday morning to review the successes and things in need of improvement, from the event. We are creating a questionnaire and a thank you letter to all of you. The questionnaire will have the event broken down into sections with a request from all of you to comment on all aspects of the event. Please keep in mind that this is the first event that IN-DMC has done but to make the next event better, we need your input.

I will try to put together a CD with collected photos from the event. Due to one of our members, we will have access to the 3,000 photos taken by the official IMS photographers when we made out lap. It may take a few weeks but they will be available to those who ask.

It was a true honor to have Steven Wynn and his wife present. Be sure you let Dave and Julee Swingle know just how much we all appreciate them. People like them make a hobby like this much more enjoyable.

Lastly, I would like to send a special thanks to Rick (Keebler) Vermillion and Jeff Thomas for a job well done. Without either one of these guys the event would not have been a success. I would also like to thank Josh Quellhorst for keeping everybody “up-to-date” on the happenings of the event….GOOD JOB.

Next year, instead of "parading" at 15, let's actually drive at a higher speed like the Chargers and Corvettes did, though. I'm guessing they were driving about 60 which was a safe speed but still fast enough to give more of a sensation of being on a 2.5 mile oval with banked turns!

I'm Guessing who ever was in the lead was savoring the moment. If they let us come back on a bi-annual basis we need Up the track speed. I was kinda bummed we were creeping along too. I heard the DMCEV got to run with a VOLT doing 70 on the track.

That's a funny shot - the DMCMW Minivan, on the racetrack, surrounded by patrol cars. The DeLorean at the far right is the DMC Electric, just after racing around the track with a Chevy Volt to catch us (as we got on the track he had to stop and unload it from the trailer).

Regarding the speed of the lap, in a Smart Car forum I found this regarding someone's proposal to take the track at higher speeds than 15 mph on "community day" back in 2009:

...been there done that got the certificate you get at the end...the down side of it is the speed...10-15 mph that's all..police and IMS security all over the track enforcing the rules...you can thank the GTO club for that...many years ago they decided to go fast and do burnouts on the track...well...that put an end to the no escort lap around...but still..is Indianapolis Motor Speedway...and the view from the inside is just awesome...trust me on this one....
...if in town..I'm in...

So it appears that the speed is set by a IMS provided pace car. :(

Here is the video I created from 2 Delorean-mounted GoPro Cameras. However, I have been having trouble finding music that can be legally attached to it. Would someone out there point me in the right direction? YouTube audioswap doesn't have any selections I found that will fill the whole video....I will probably need two songs added to fill the 8:45 length...thanks and enjoy!
