I have had 4 bird strikes this year. First, chopped off most of the head of the bird and lodged it in between the headlight and the grill in my 99 9-5. Hit that one doing about 80, A saw a puff of feathers flying around in my rear view mirror. Next one, I found in the "mouth" of the STI. No damage, just a dead bird laying on the plastic, never saw the impact. The 3rd one I hit in the DeLorean doing about 70 on a back road. No damage, and the bird didn't "stick" just a large poof of feathers.

This one did damage, and the bird "stuck" Joe (the cat) found the kill delicious, but I probably need a new grill for the STI. This impact happened at 120+ MPH, All I saw was the bird vanish into the front end of the car - apparently smooshing my grill.

Yeah, those kangaroos in Pennsylvania are very common and larger than their Australian or Seychelles counterparts.. That may have killed you, had you hit one of those.. :p

A friend of mine was traveling from upper Quebec to ATL in his Excursion and hit an owl in Illinois in late evening. When he pulled over, he found out that the owl had punched a hole in the grill and been stopped by the radiator, but was just stunned. He now had a very mad owl clinging to the inside of his grill.

He had no option but to drive through the night from IL to GA with this owl clinging on, until he could get to a vet that was open.

To this day he still has the owl shaped hole in the grill.

Why were you doing 120 on a public road way? Sounds like you got what you deserved…..

If you want to drive fast, fine. Do it on a track where you won't kill someone else or an innocent little birdie! (okay, that last bit was sarcasm).

Pfffttt....120, in a car? That is nothing.

I killed a bird going 25-30...on a BICYCLE! Bird was diving for something, I could see it coming in from my left, at 11 o'clock. Looked like it might land short or over me, but was aiming for something (perhaps food) to my right.

Unfortunately, both of us were going to fast, neither of us had time to react. I felt a soft bump...ran over him with my back tire. Basically, he tried to land somewhere between my front and rear wheel at the point of impact. Person behind me said there was a puff and saw the bird lying there.

Poor bird. This was the aftermath:

You can see feathers on my crank arm, wheels, and frame.

Nice titanium frame you've got there. Ultegra components, You dropped a pretty penny on that bike.
I went full carbon and I hate it, stick with your ti.

I have had 4 bird strikes this year.

One day on my way home from Denver International Airport in my Nissan Xterra birds were all over kamikasi diving for bugs.

I was hauling pretty fast 85-90 and all of the sudden this bird is right in front of me, I glanced in all of the mirrors but decided it was too risky to hit the brakes. At the same time the bird sees the mess he's in and pulls up in attempt to gain altitude, Somehow he missed my front grill and is heading right for the windshield and my face but he's able to gain just enough altitude to clear the car. Too bad for him, he didn't calculate for my ski rack. I heard colision and saw about a hundred feather blast out the back of my rig. No vehicle damage but I'm certain the bird was a mess.I was actually shocked, when I got home, that he wasn't lodged in the rack.

It seems to me that birds have gotten so used to cars that they are willing to take more risks...

Also, how did my cat get to your house?

Last week I was riding in the mountains about 20-25 miles from the house screaming down this hill on my bike doing 25-30 maybe more, when out of the trees to my right bolts a coyote, not a fox, but a very large coyote in full sprint. There was no way I could stop but got lucky, when he passed in front of me literally by inches, we didn't collide. I am certain it would not have been good for either one of us. Possibly worse for me.

My favorite bird story: Traveling across Iowa on my way to the DCS in Chicago (2006?). Following a semi at about 60 mph when I could see a pheasant on the side of the road in front of the semi. Pheasant decided to fly acorss the road at the wrong time and got hit by the semi. Bird flew (not under its own power) up and over the semi and landed just behind my D. Left a trail of blood and guts from one end of the car to the other. Crazy racing strip 8).
