Hey all. So as stated in the pre-planning thread (http://dmctalk.org/showthread.php?3652-SEDOC-Tech-Day-Pre-Planning-Thread), I'm going to be hosting a tech day next month. As of the end of that thread, here are the details:

Date: 09-JUN-12
Time: 10:00 to 17:00+

Attendees:

Accipiter
Ron
davidrucker11387 (?)
DL4567
sean
Soundkillr (?)
Mike S
Bikercmbc (?)
rundmc
sphiend (?)
Ryan
eflexx
Mark C (?)
Dangermouse (?)

As we get closer to the event, I will PM everyone with my address and directions to my place. We should have no problem taking up a bit of the street and I have a pretty long driveway, so we should be good on space. I will be providing provisions of some kind of another (Cheerwine will be present upon request), and I'd encourage everyone to bring something as well.

Please feel free to use this thread to discuss the projects you'd like to work on, and if anyone else would like to be added to the list please reply here as well.

Put me down as a possible.

After my door handle debacle at the last session, I'd like to work on my swearing, as it wasn't as eloquent as I would like it to be.

Speaking of which, I really must order a new door handle.

If you come, I will help you with both your swearing AND getting that damn nut onto that bolt again. :)

Slight adjustment: "...damn nut onto that DAMN bolt again." (We're helping with swearing, right?)

Eloquent swearing. Redundancies aren't eloquent. :)

I think for this go-round, for the easy bit I'd like to get some help installing a hood release backup cable.

For more complicated stuff I'd like to see about removing my MCU to see if my valley needs cleaning and to install a slave cylinder bleeder. Intake manifold gaskets too, if it can be easily done with the MCU out of the way.

FANTASTIC.

I never actually got a good look at the nut. It was almost always in my hand with my hand buried in your door. If I had, I might have noticed that.

Sadly, I'm out. I just noticed that the date overlaps with an event I'm going to that weekend. It's a "no reentry" type thing, so I wouldn't be able to leave and come back.

Remove the question mark from my name. I'll be there. Or will I? Yeah, i'll be there.

Looks like Buddy doesn't care about Sean. :)

Is this supposed to be Sean's farewell party? I might actually drive out just to make him mad one last time if it is.

Here's a current list of things I'd like to try and accomplish on my car. I doubt we'll have the time to get at everything what with other people no doubt having projects as well, but anything I can scratch off the list would be great.

1. Engine stalling troubleshooting. (I suspect a dying fuel pump, but I'd like to get more opinions.)

2. Track down environmental water leak issues as described here (http://dmctalk.org/showthread.php?3906-Water-water-everywhere).

3. Hood release backup cable. (Can anyone clue me in on the exact parts I should be picking up for this in advance?)

4. Speedometer troubleshooting and part replacements.

5. Engine ticking troubleshooting. (Exhaust leak?)

6. Window regulator replacements. (IF I BUY THE PARTS. I would very much rather wait until I can get Toby's door lock actuators and then knock all of that stuff out at the same time while the door panels are off, but I don't know if he stopped selling them or what because they haven't been available in forever. I also do have a second door lock solenoid I can install instead, but it's a LH solenoid so I would need some help reversing it to work on the RH door. Can anyone comment on this? EDIT: Scratch that. Looked at Toby's site and found he had some available! I picked 3-5 day shipping so I'm really hoping I can get them in time for the tech day.)

7. Remove the MCU to get at the valley for inspection and any cleaning. (If possible, time permitting.)

8. Slave cylinder bleeder installation while the MCU is out of the way. (If possible, time permitting.)

9. Steering rack boot replacement. (If possible, time permitting.)

I'm going to try to be there with 1623, but I'll have to leave around 2PM.

I thought 1669 was going to be a no-show since yesterday. I had just rinsed it off and restarted it when it just quit running after about 15 seconds. I thought it was wet ignition, but it lost fuel pressure. After a lot of testing/hair pulling all day, I found the accumulator was being fed by a 50psi rated hose which said "NOT FOR FUEL INJECTION" right on it -- &#$%&! POs. It was spraying WAY up into the frame and took a while for it to ever drip.
Anyway, I missed getting the clear coat wheeled out twice. A big NAPA here is the only place left where I have a chance of getting a replacement to match the fittings. If it's out of stock, no telling what I'll have to drive down in.

Any last minute requests for food, drink, tools in particular, etc?

Any last minute requests for food, drink, tools in particular, etc?

The only request I have is if someone could please tell me what my best option is for a backup trunk release cable. I've been told to just buy a bicycle brake cable but I don't know A) if that's the best option or B) where to buy one.

I'm also really hoping you guys can assist me in installing my new window motors and DPNY's lock actuators.

Everyone who has confirmed as either a "Yes" or a "Maybe" should have received the details for this event via PM a week ago or sooner. If you still need details, let me know as soon as you can!

I also went ahead and bought a bike brake/gear cable kit.

Chris,

Thanks for hosting the tech session today, it is always great to spend time with other DeLorean owners.

Thanks, Mike. And thanks to everyone who came out. Special thanks to Ben and Ron for your invaluable assistance in getting my window motors installed. (Hope you enjoy your motors, Ben!) Thanks to everyone else who assisted as well. I very literally couldn't have done it without you guys.

So late last night while Ron and I were finishing up on the doors, we discovered that my car no longer started. Once again my mind went directly to that damned fuel pump, even though the battery was a possibility since voltage was low and the car had been open pretty much the entire day. I went ahead and bought a battery charger today (since I wanted one anyway and they're good to have around) but when I got home I went ahead and started my inspection of the fuel pump before even taking the battery charger out of the box.

I have discovered not only why my car will not start, but very likely the source of ALL my recent problems with this thing.

http://i.imgur.com/g3dbm.jpg

In case you can't tell, the yellow wire for the fuel pump isn't connected to anything. While I was fiddling with the wires and down under the pump cap, the wire pulled right off the terminal. The whole shebang is corroded to hell and back down there, and the yellow wire was just barely connected as it was. A simple and light pull on the wire to move stuff out of the way snapped the connection entirely. As a temporary test I jammed it back into the end of the terminal and secured it as best I could, jumped back in the car and cranked it. Started right up.

So at least one of my fuel pump power connections is massively intermittent, causing power failures in delivering fuel. Yeah, that'll stop a car from running or starting real damn quick.

Dearest Houston: Please please please send me my new pump/sender combo unit ASAP! I'm not going to take my existing pump apart just to re-solder a poor terminal connection. If I remove this fuel pump from the car, it's staying out permanently. :)

I'm confused. Why did someone send Ryan pics of the event for him to post here? ;)

And that's the first time I have seen a pic of Sean at an event without a DMC themed t-shirt. He is truly stepping away.

Really sorry I couldn't make it. :(

Big thanks to Chris for hosting a great tech session. I had a really good time!

I hope these pics aren't too big, for some reason the forum attachment uploader wasn't letting me upload any files. So I put them on another hosting site.
