I only took a few. Was a great show as always.

I have a suggestion for the next shows. Announce the start of talks (tech talks, etc.) 5 min before it starts. I missed every talk I wanted to attend. I should have had my phone remind me.

The only one I took with my phone. The D Rex greeting all the Disney tourists outside the hotel.

The rest are on my camera that I'll upload tomorrow.

+1!
IMO, FaceBook = Data miners and privacy pigs galore!!! Sure you can adjust the settings but they update the way they do things a million times a year and each time they want you to jump through a bunch of agreement hoop pages that have all of the choices reset to defaulted to allow everything...and sometimes you have to drill down 4-5 pages deep because they each have "See Details Here" (or similar) buried in the middle of them, with more choices...
Scuttlebutt is, they are now considering sending advertisements to a user's registered email based on their posted conversations.

Screw em'!

Steve Wynne talked about the binnacles and their evolution. He is waiting for the first production units to be shipped.

On the horizon are new LED taillight boards, schedule and cost TBD.

Also mentioned that DMCH have obtained the equipment for Pearse's SS frames and they hope to start manufacture before the end of the year.

Delorean Bicycle was there if you consider it a new product;)

New fuel pump was there too.

Late entry in the "most packed DeLorean" - Tyler B in Bills car en route to the airport. :)

http://img.tapatalk.com/624f5e19-4693-67dd.jpg

Tyler's large suitcase behind the seat plus two carry ons on his lap. Bills usual packed trunk as well as 3 assorted manifolds scattered throughout the car.

I have to admit that I was a doubter before they started but I am very impressed.

Yes, we counted 41 inside on Saturday and 11 outside on Friday. There may have been more outside on Saturday but I didn't get a count.

Inside cars included:

1 painted car
1 4x4
1 limo
3 BTTF cars
3 engine conversions
2 carbs
1 electric
1 4-cylinder

What Steve is being modest about is that he got the cruise control one, entirely on the recommendation of Kevin Pike, special FX guy for the BTTF movies.

Wow, really surprised at there being less than half the number of cars as usual. Were there fewer people as well? In other words, was it just the geography of being way down at the southern end of Florida that kept people from bringing their cars, or did proportionally fewer people show up too?

Regardless, I'm sad I missed this one. Hope you all had a great time!

I think the distance for most was the reason for less cars. It adds to cost requiring one or two days lodging during the trip. Economy also has not recovered so many are still strapped for money. I still miss the working on cars like we had at Gettysburg but the hotel was not setup for that.

I believe Ken expected a low car turnout due to the average distance driven, AND the fact that, being at Disney, many would bring families requiring them to drive a larger car. I don't know what the people-count was, but I'll bet it wasn't as low as the car count compared to the norm.

Evildeli
06-19-2012, 03:45 PM
By the end of Friday night, Ken told me there were over 300 people registered. Not sure how many people came just for the show part on Saturday, but it was kinda packed.

Nicholas R

There were definitely more people than anticipated. Hence the reason for adding more tables on friday night, then a lot more tables on saturday night.

Even with my dirty car I managed to walk away with two awards. I believe that was more than anyone else.

Actually I got two awards as well. 1st place 20,000-40,000 miles and a "Kevin Pike" combined award for exhaust and custom stereo. Kevin just walked up to me and asked what was special about my car and I thought for a second and mentioned two of my favorite things about my car.

On a side note, I thought today about calling the original owner of my car (whom I bought the car from) and telling her how it did at the DeLorean Car Show. Since I am on vacation right now, and I didn't have access to her number, I just tried looking the number up on Google. The first thing that popped up was her obituary, she passed last year. I think she knows, regardless.

Rich,
We were out wednesday night, and arrived at the hotel in a shuttle with other passengers. You wouldn't believe (or maybe you would) the kind of excitment inside the vehicle as everyone was immediately talking about the D-Rex and Limo. It certainly made their night- there was such an exchange of chatter than I couldn't even squeeze in the words Delorean Car show. It was entertaining, and my wife and I really appreciate the effort you made to bring the cars down. They were fantasic, and we're glad you won some awards - even if the competition only came from yourself.

Rich W

Thanks guys. The logistics of taking these two vehicles to Florida and back is almost a project in and of itself.

Glad to hear so many folks enjoyed seeing the D Limo for the first time and the D Rex, on its 10th Anniversary.

Tamir ... you were missed by many at this event. I hope to see you sometime over this Summer in Chicago.
Its nearly a two hour drive, each way, from Chicago, to go see the D Limo, but see if you can make the time.

Attaching another view of the two vehicles outside the Hilton on Wednesday.

dmcjohn

I couldn't make the show this year unfortunately so I'm only basing my comments on pictures I have seen.

Similar to William's custom car, I can appreciate the amount of effort put into the limo so far, but to me it really give the appearance of 3 cars stuck together - the lines don't appear to flow well together.

It looks like it would benefit a lot from some modifications to the gullwing doors - e.g. the part where the leading edge curls inwards around the A pillar towards the windshield. If the curve inwards was removed, the door could sit flush with the sides of the car and would visually help a lot...

Rich W
06-22-2012, 01:30 PM
John 05141,

Yes (technically) the D Rex is road legal, according to the rules in Illinois. The tires are DOT Approved
and they were the largest DOT Approved tire 10 years ago, when D Rex was built (some 48's DOT now).

The Steering is a modified stock power steering system and not a hydraulic ram system, the latter is
used in most off-road only monster truck setups (to be able to steer and move the much larger tires).

Outward Visibility from the driver seat is a big issue, since it is difficult to see the road from the bumper
to about 8 feet in front of the vehicle and almost no lower visibility to rear (cameras help quite a bit).

Thanks for making the 16.000 Km trip to be at DCS this year.

It wasn't a bricklin car show this time. In DCS08 and 10 the Bricklins accepted Kens invitation and made their own car show to compliment DCS. This year they did not.

Thanks for making the 16.000 Km trip to be at DCS this year. I am now finally recovered from my hang over... no, I mean jet lag.

I was sleeping most of the time of those 16.000Km anyway... It was my second DCS. The stories and speaches remain more or less the same but there are other cars becasue of a different location. It is so great to be able to see those cars in aircondioned comfort.
I came with a focus to see the proto 1, the BTTF 3, D-Rex and the Limo. And of course all the other cars. I took the time to look at each and single one of them. Lovely to see the special customs things some owners have done. What I also notived is that the general condition of the Deloreans was better than in Gettysburg. But there were far less cars, could have something to do with it.
Rich, I am writing articles for the Dutch Delorean magazine "Dashboard". I went out on (I think it was sunday) morning becasue your D-Rex was parked in front of the flower garden. So I took some pictures I'll try to get on the cover of the next issue. I'll send you a scan. (september)

Hi John,

I was glad I was able to talk to you and a few other owners and enthusiasts who traveled from such long distances.
I know my availability was a little limited on Thursday and Friday afternoon, but since you were there on Wednesday
after I had just unloaded the D Rex and D Limo, you had my full (but tired) attention that afternoon (before dinner).

I am not sure if they are members of DMCTalk or not, but the two gentlemen from France who were at DCS 2012
(sorry, I am bad remembering names) were great to talk to also. I hope my answers to your question were understood.

I look forward to seeing a scan of the your Fall Issue sometime around September.

Thanks,

On the horizon are new LED taillight boards, schedule and cost TBD.

Ken has those specially made for each DCS with your VIN on them as a souvenir that you can buy. They are "for display only" .
