So I would never do a BTTF replica on my D but this on the other hand will be getting the replica treatment.
I spent all day stripping the paint getting it ready for the body work. Recently rebuilt motor runs like a champ. It's the right year (85) 4x4. now just locating the tube bumpers and roll bar.

So looking at pics of Marty's truck when the truck is up on the trailer when he first sees it, it has a single tube roll bar. In part 3 it has a double tube roll bar. Hmmm I guess whatever I can find.

Yeah they used two completely different trucks when filming Part 1 vs Part 3. If it were me I'd try and make it match the "hero" shot of the truck on the trailer when marty first sees it. Kinda like how most people try to replicate the time machine as it is first seen rolling out of Doc's van into the parking lot.

Nice looking truck though, looks like minimal rust. And as seen on top gear they are nearly indestructible!

Cool dude! And it looks like the little princess already approves of Daddy's next project. She'll have to trade in the matching blue outfit for a black one when you get the paint done. Good luck on the progress!

Nice , I've got an 86 I've slowly been converting over to Marty's truck. Finding grey interior pieces is a pain though. Good luck on your new adventure!

located the front bumper today. Thought I was going to have it custom made. Smittybilt dosent make them anymore. Some guy here in town is parting out his truck. Truck will be going in for paint next week.

I've always wanted a custom die-cut dealer sticker for the back of my car that said:

Statler Toyota - De Lorean
Hill Valley, Ca.

Don't think there was ever a logo for the fictitious dealership, but it would be funny to have that on the back to have a small BTTF nod. And to confuse people into thinking that there really is a Hill Valley...

The truck will be going in for paint on thursday. I got the tube bumpers and will be picking up the light/roll bar later today. Kc lights should be here by the end of the week. The rims were a pain to find but a guy over at yotatech.com sent me a link to where he got his. (he has a 86 marty 4x4. Looks good but has ifs) After that all I have to do is make the int. grey.(seats, dash, carpet, panels) then the truck will be done.
I will post some pics soon.

So I decided to do the interior before sending the truck off to paint. Ordered some parts a couple weeks ago and finally got them the other day. I pulled all of the blue plastic and prepped them for paint. I went with a light grey for the pastic and trim. Just waiting on the black carpet to get here. I'm heading down to the stereo shop tomorrow to get replacement speakers and amp. I will also be putting in a single 10" sub behind the drivers seat. Below are some pics from earlier today.12134121331213212131121301212912137121361213 5

The roll bar was a pain. I was going to buy one from a guy but he ended up flaking out. I found this one at a junk yard but it was rotted out at the feet so I had to make new ones. Going to finish up the sound proofing tomorrow then run all my electrical before carpet gets here.

While at the Del Mar fair I came across a booth that made custom frames. The guy has a sign shop here in town. I would imagine you could go to any sign shop that does frames and they would do it. It came out to $15.00 for the completed frame.

Truck went off to paint earlier this week. I'm going to Vegas Monday night till Thursday. They said it will be done by Wednesday. Can't wait to pick it up when I get back. All that I will have to do is run the wires from the "roll" bar then put the interior back together. Will be posting more pics when I get it back.

Awesome work. I can't wait to see it done. This is the only truck my brother has ever been interested in restoring. He's not a fan of the movie but he fell in love with the truck at some point and wants one just like it. One day I hope to find him one.

So I was online looking up possible vanity plates for the truck and the ones I wanted were taken. anyone have any good ideas? The ones that I wanted were
PWROFLV STATLER BTTF MCFLY
was thinking of BTTFTRK and it's available.
Also ordered up some floor mats that came with custom embroidery.
Driver side will say Marty and passenger side will say Jennifer

I've been reading the web about it and a few places say the script called for "MARTY1" but it didn't get into the movie. 2BAK860 is the plate from the second and third movies from what I'm reading.

I'm the other guy who is currently building a BTTF truck replica. I chose to do the movie replica from BTTF #2 and #3 since it has the IFS front end and will be a daily driver for me at some point when it is finished and they ride much more comfortably than a solid front axle. I'd like to see some updated pics of your rig - so far it's looking good Broyota! Here is a pic of mine currently:

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b1/jameser84/BTTF3Arrived.jpg

I have been working on restoring the interior and put some of the rare "vertigo" stitched buckets in a few weekends ago:

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b1/jameser84/IMG_1908.jpg

I got a bunch of other interior parts this last weekend and will be installing them tonight. I'll post some more updated pics soon.

I have the customized "Statler Toyota, Hill Valley, CA" license plate too. It's the perfect touch. Icing on the cake if you will.

I tried to get the 2BAK860 license plate but in my state you can only have 6 letters/numbers on a personalized license plate :(

Really well done. How hard to find parts at this point?

Difficult. It's really just time consuming and isn't something that can be done overnight. You have to manage Ebay and Craig's List really frequently, make a lot of calls, go check out parts, haggle, etc. But, like most men, that's part of the fun. It's like a treasure hunt. There are definitely a few pieces that can be really frustrating to find though. Right now I am stuck with finding a center console lid (for example).

Yea like I said before Jordan did a real good job on your truck. I gotta ask him where he got his front light covers because I can't find those anywhere.
I took a bunch of pics yesterday but for some reason my tower isn't reconizing my sd card but I snapped this pic with my iphone.
I just have to put the light bar back in, run the wires and install the new carpet.
Would like to get those seat covers but damn near impossible to find them in good shape.
Then I'll get the 20% tint done sometime soon.

It's kind of annoying but I wont be able to install the front splitter bc the original owner welded on the tow bar in the front. It kinda gives it that "somethings missing" look up front.

DniveK
08-27-2012, 09:03 AM
Can you use a plasma torch and trim it off? I think it would look funny without that splitter. Looks like its coming together really nicely, great job.

yellowmxwheels23
08-27-2012, 10:45 PM
I could but I already welded on brackets to the bumper where it meets up with the tow bar. The bumper was off a older yota so the factory brackets didn't match up to my truck.
was looking at another truck today and I might be able to get a front splitter to fit.

No. The truck was originally blue. I put the red door on after the body shop said it would be about $500 to fix the original door because of the big dent in it.

The only thing I really need is the 4WD mud flaps and the sr5 seats in grey. The flaps I see on ebay are not in that great of shape.

I like the idea of doing the Ford Probe. Those are pretty easy to find. But if I remember right, the screen used one they have at Universal has a big plastic piece over the back window to replicate a bigger back window. I'd have to take a look at some pics.

Those things are actually kinda pricey in good condition. All it would really need is a paint job and a sun roof. Don't think I would actually drive one though.

I have one sitting in my Driveway that needs to get finished. It drives like a top after I put about $2500 into all new brakes and a tad of engine work. It just looks like poo right now half primered and spot bondoed.

It's a hard top, but I'm debating about putting in a sliding rag top since everyone always asks about the sunroof...

If it's a bay window bus, then it would be a hard slider that opens since it's part of the roof. If it's a 67 or earlier split-window bus, then it would be a sliding rag top. I'm still learning a lot about Deloreans, but had 3 split window busses from a 65 Deluxe hardtop (13 window) to my last one which was a 63 1/2 23 window...

Gary Weaver II

I know. I'm thinking about going with an aftermarket sliding rag top. It's certainly alot easier than grafting in the mechanisms from a donor bay-window.
