Has anyone had their old steering wheel recovered and/or re-sewn rather than purchasing one from DMC or another vendor? My stitching is starting to come apart in places and I will be wanting one in better condition soon. Let me know what you have done to yours. Thanks!

Someone on the DML recommended this place some time ago:

I can't speak from firsthand experience, but I plan on sending a beat up steering wheel to them as soon as I get around to it - from their portfolio, it looks like they do some quality work.

Might have been me, but I wasn't the first to use them. It was a little spendy but totally worth it. My steering wheel is 100% perfect, and it's been probably 8 years since I had it done. Still looks brand-new. Extremely high-quality work and well worth the money!

I *believe* this is where the previous owner of my second DeLorean sent my car's steering wheel. It really turned out fantastic. Way better quality leather than stock DeLorean steering wheels have (much softer, better grain). The stitching was far above & beyond stock DeLorean, too. They also added a little bit of padding to slightly beef up the wheel. The previous owner of my car also had them make the wheel two tone, which turned out fantastic. Price (back in the '90s) was $250-$300 I believe.

This is the sole pic I have left of the steering wheel. I've gone through too many computers this past decade, and the pics have all been lost. Sorry it's not a good shot, but you get the idea:

Very nice but a little expensive for my budget unless it is the same price today. Hervey is recovering for $300 is 2011 dollars.

Here are some pics I just took with my Droid. I have not restored the center pad. Looks like in 2003 I payed $318. $259 for R&R wheel, $50 extra for basting stitch, $9 shipping. Totally worth it.

interesting thread pattern... is there a functional benefit to a basting stitch or is merely cosmetic?

After I sent my steering wheel in, they called and said the OEM stitch is basting, but that costs extra. Standard stitching was included in the regular price. I don't know what pattern the standard stitching would have been.

I do know that the stitch is excellent and there are no loose threads or anything. The leather is very tight and looks show-room floor new, 8 years later.
