I recently purchased my delo and need a little help. I'm looking to purchase a performance exhaust but after reading about everyone else's new systems I'm finding it difficult to sort the information. Plus utube videos are a poor point of reference for this kind of decision. Forgive me but the best way to describe what I'm looking for is to reference bttf. The twin pines mall sence to be specific. I am fully aware that the sounds in the first movie are recorded v8 sounds but I've here that the sounds in the movie are very reminiscent of Porsche. Ever since I was about five I've dreamed of owning my own "time machine". For me the feel of the car won't be complete until it sounds just as I've dreamed for all these years. Can anyone help me out?

DPI. 'nuff said.
I could not be happier with my system from DPI, and everyone else who's seen/heard it is equally impressed.
Here is a thread I made with before/after video clips of my car, stock, then with DPI. http://dmctalk.org/showthread.php?3203-Stock-DPI-Spec-I-back-to-back-comparison-videos

:welcome:

Congrats on your purchase! I was watching that car on E-bay.

Yea DPI Spec 1 exhaust is the way to go. I have driven a Delorean with this exhaust and was throughly impressed.

Jack, thanks for the info. Great vids. How load is your setup from inside the car?

The definition of "loud" is pretty subjective, you won't mistake the car for being off, that's for sure. It's louder than the stock exhaust of any car I've ever ridden in, but not the loudest I've ever heard. I suppose depending on how sensitive you are to sounds, some people might say it "drones" a little on the highway when you're at a constant speed, but it makes the car sound..... ALIVE. I would definitiely purchase it again.

Where are you located? The best way to choose is to hear examples in person. We have all sorts of varieties in the Ohio Delorean club... if you attend one event, most likely you'll get a few good examples. Here is the main list of aftermarket exhausts I know of:

DPI (http://www.deloreanindustries.com/)
DMCH (http://www.delorean.com)
HERVEY/ SPECIATLY T AUTO (http://www.specialtauto.com/)
UK Exhaust (http://www.stainless-exhaust.com/)

I'm most likely leaving someone out... I've found that no matter who you ask, the "best" aftermarket exhaust is the one they're selling, or the one on their car.

I personally have the UK exhaust which I love - it IS the best afterall.

This may sound like a stupid question, but will any of the systems above pass smog, or are they all meant for performance driving?

If that's an issue you need to be sure that you get one that has catalytic converters. Some don't.

I drove 1600 miles round trip to have Stage 1 added to my car. DMCMW did a great job with the install and also performed an engine tuneup. I have been totally satisfied with the Stage 1, however I have also heard good things about DPI's upgrade. If I had to make the choice again, I likely would compare price and also consider the driving distance for the upgrade. If I were to choose between those two, I likely would pick the closest shop. I chose to have everything but the tail pipes ceramic coated and would definitely recommend that you consider that.

Good luck,

I have the DPI Spec one, it truly is a great system but it certainly does not sound like the BTTF car. It has a very strong 'european' note, rather deep but not like a V8. You will have a very hard time getting it to sound like BTTF, closest you would get is running the car with just headers, we started mine like this just quickly to see how it sounded.

It has alot of pop and crackle too when gearing down, I personally like it but my old man is not a fan of that aspect.

Would definately recommend Josh's system.

Cheers

I LOVED my UK stainless exhaust in the past. I definitely recommend it. Only downside is being overseas and made to order. Pricewise, at least when I bought it, it was on par with the rest. Supposedly it can be made with CATS but I've never seen one.

Now my exhaust is my least favorite part of my car... gotta do something about it before it drives me crazy...:banghead:

Here's a video of my car with Josh's exhaust. It isn't quite representative of what a stock PRV would sound like with his system as I am also running his ported heads and hot cams:

Systems in stock ready to ship! Let us know if you have any questions on our products. Life time warranty from our manufacture Stainless works as well!

If you need the system installed we can do that as well. We will be dropping a car in Chicago the first week of September and can provide a reduced shipping quote in conjunction with the other job we are delivering.
