I would like let everyone know on this form that I'm now the owner of VIN 1019. I found the car listed on craigslist early this month. I excanged emails and calls with the seller and Dave Swingle, negotiated with the seller and bought it. I'm in the process on having transported to DMC Midwest from Panora, IA.

The car is an early 81 built car with gas flap hood, black interior, 5 speed, dark gray wheels. The car is an original unrestored car, and in good condition.

Some of you might remember me at the last three Delorean Car Shows and on this fourm site before it went down.

I knew someone would ask for pictures. I don't know for sure how to upload pictures. I will try to upload them.

The car is being picked up in iowa and brought to Dave Swingle's shop. I can't wait to see the car myself.

Update:

The car is now at DMC Midwest. The gas tank had old gas that was causing a knocking. The fuel pump was repalced a few years ago and not the correct one and falling apart. It's now getting a new fuel pump.

Typical of a very nice car that wasn't driven much. Old bad gas and fuel parts:

The first pic is what it looked like before we touched anything. The second is the fuel pump assembly. Kinked pickup, no return hose, falling apart outside lines, cracked cover, and the wrong pump with a rubber insert to make it fit, which was rotting in the fuel. The pump had just about fallen into the tank. The gas that came out was very dark, and the car would start and run on it but it must have been about 50 octane because it would detonate at the slightest acceration.

With the correct parts and a tank of fresh gas it runs great!

That may be the "power pump". I had one in my car but it failed. I suspect that rubber around the pump may have caused mine to fail. I think the pump twisted after running about one year and that kinked the pickup hose.

Congrats on your new acquisition and welcome.

Excellent to see one brought back into circulation with so little fuss. The basics are all looking solid on this.

With Dave's blessing you may wish to invest in a metal coolant tank and set the original aside for your concours days down the road.

Similar recommendation for the tires if it's still on NCT's - looks as if it might be. Save them (for concours?) and enjoy the highway safely on new rubber.

Good call, of course, to see to the brakes right away.

Dave and Juli will take good care of you. Enjoyed my short visit to DMCMW when passing through on business two summers ago. Bought one of their last Joe Cools since it was easy to pack on the plane.

Wow, I just noticed that myself! It makes so much more sense to me than what the rest of us have... anyone know why they changed it? I assume there was a good reason :)

I think it developed air pockets in one of the cooling pipes more easily, helping the car to overheat.

Have Dave change out your oil plug if it's original. You will not have a tool to get this out the next time you want to change the oil if it's still the original one. The part is cheap and it will save you a lot of frustration in the future.

Tended to get an air pocket at the otterstat as it was up from the pipe. The "fixed" design insures that the otterstat stays wet. There's a recall to saw the pipe off and turn it over but I don't think I've seen it done that way.
