Adding lights

I was thinking of the DeLorean when I cam up with this.. I wanted to take the reflector out of my car door and install some sort of red LED light that would come on anytime the door is ajar.. Any ideas how I could go about this?

I will need to get a picture in the morning of what I am talking about, but those of you familiar with the S197 Mustang should already know what I am talking about.

That is what I was thinking, but I have no idea how to do this; anyone know if a body shop might be able to rig this for me?
