Glad you are looking to remove that paint. Good luck with the restoration!

Looks good, nice video.

I would not sand the paint off the car, not only will it take a very long time but you run the risk of ruining the stainless panels. Use some kind of paint removal paste or similar.
Keep us posted on the progress.

I doubt there's anything he would be able to do to it that would be worse than what the paint is already hiding. It's likely going to need to be regrained either way.

Disagree, just because it is painted does not necessarily mean its hiding something. And sanding it down could result in uneven surfaces which regraining would not fix. My car was painted, it did have some imperfections buy very minimal. I have not regrained my car yet, the grain looks great on it. Although I do plan on going over with a blending pad just to perfect it.

Hey, good luck with the project. Reminds me a bit of how 2650 started. Keep us posted.

I'd also not sand the paint off. Use some chemical stripping agent to remove it. If you haven't sanded a car before you have to be very careful around corners and watch heat build up on the flat areas. Plus, a few of gallons of stripper is cheaper than the amount of quality sandpaper you'll go through. Easier on the arms too.

Along with the recommendations for chemical strippers needs to come the warning: Chemical stripper will destroy any plastic, or fiberglass it comes in contact with. So be careful around all trim, fascias and fiberglass underbody.

To add a bit more, Aldo be careful when doing doors (inside) not to let it drip on your interior pieces. Still haven't been able to remove what got on mine.

thanks for the advice so far. after i messed up the driver side door, i quit my attempt of sanding because i didnt want to damage anything else. when i get a shop/building started up, i will use chemical paint stripper to remove the paint and primer. im so excited to get to work on her. i keep visioning the day where i pop the key in the ignition and vroooom for the first time lol.

i look forward to the twists and turns that this car will provide me. granted some of them will probably turn my hair gray lol or make me wanna pull my hair out, but it will not deter me from finishing the restoration. She will get returned to her former glory. She will not be destroyed for a BTTF knockoff nor will she be turned into a white trash Joey Paul Gowdy Knockoff of Rich W's masterpiece. I love the DeLorean for what it is.

I think the best way to remove the paint is by soda blasting, this will not create heat and warp and damage the panels. But I would still, protect all plastics and trim.

It's really satisfying to see a DeLorean like this get "saved". It'll be nice to see that awful paint get stripped off, too. If money was no object, I would love to just pick up cars like this and send them out to be fully restored to original (except for recommended upgrades) with no expense spared.
