Nope, it's as fake as fake can be. The seller is using some clever words to try and legally cover themselves from violating eBay rules. Most notably you don't see the phrase "screen used" in there anywhere, let alone anything that specifically states that the item was used in filming in any way. Very sleazy.

Here's a link with both screen caps, and photos of when the original item that went up for auction:

Yeah it's a replica. It says right in the auction that it is made of resin (plastic). The original is wood and metal. The link that DMCVegas posted above shows pics from the Profiles in History auction catalog from when it sold earlier this year... I think it went for a couple grand.

I have asked the seller if its a replica or screen used. See what happens.

Dear cefew8,

Hello,

Is this a SCREEN-USED prop, or is this a replica? If screen used, does it come with a certificate of authenticity?

Next time, don't ask on open forum, if it was real, more people will know and you will end up paying more, if you ever get it.

Best thing to do, ask the seller, if seller tell you it is the real thing, then use paypal and pay after delivery, if is not what the seller told you, then contact paypal and file a claim, your money will never leave your account. Make sure you ask the seller, that way you have proof, ebay and paypal have access to all seller/buyer communications.

The seller does not say it's from the movie. He only claims it's very rare. This is not against the rules of ebay, only against people who don't understand what they are reading. Sorry.

I got the same response.

Cheers.

A buyer should always be vigilant, I agree. But while the description isn't against the rules per se, it absolutely is meant to mislead a buyer.

Videobob as an example from what I've seen over the years sells replicas, but always notates them as such and by also detailing the work that goes into them.

It looks like a bad Cub Scout Pinewood Derby car. Why anyone would pay good money for it, real or replica, is beyond me.
