Great array of cars guys! I need to make it up to the tech day sometime! That red one and twin turbo ones are interesting.

I test drove that red DeLorean close to 10 years ago when I was looking to replace my first DeLorean (I was hit by a drunk driver). That red DeLo was basically my dream restoration project since it was such an early car (I've always had a soft spot for those), but I decided against it. I was in my Junior year in college, and simply didn't have the time to dedicate to the car. I'm so glad to see someone in the community scooped it up, and has it roadworthy.

Looks like y'all had a great time. Awesome variety of cars. Makes me really miss my Carolina DeLorean family!

That's interesting history Louie. Do you remember where the car was located then? I believe the owner Chris told me he purchased the car out of Texas, it was a promotional car for a radio station or something to that effect. Cool that it ended up coming back to NC.

You know, that's the same story I was given when I checked the car out back in '03. It was in Garner back when I test drove it. I think I found the car for sale in the Classifieds section of the Raleigh News & Observer? I remember I posted to the DML about the car when I found it, I'd never seen a D with textured pontoons before. I really wanted to see the car go to an enthusiast since it had a 3 digit VIN. After the insurance & lawsuit money I got from the drunk who hit #10115, I had plenty of cash to buy & get 781 into pretty nice shape... I just didn't have the time to commit to the car (especially since I'd be keeping the car at my parents house 2.5 hours away while I was in school), so I went with turn-key instead (5252).

It's good to see Bill Lane is still in the fray & that Mike Babb got another DeLo. I forget how much I miss the DeLorean aspect of my life!

You're close. The previous owner had won it in a radio contest back in 83 (in Texas). He had since moved to NC where I purchased it. To louie's point, the low VIN was an attractive quality for me as well (I guess we have similar soft spots). He'll be happy to know that it's on the (long and slow) road to a complete stock restoration.

On a side note, it is a shame that 781 couldn't make it to the line up (we were preoccupied in the garage with Josh). I'd have liked to seen a red spot in the sea of stainless :)

Yeah, sorry about that Chris. I hate we couldn't get all the cars in the line-up. Dick left early with his car due to family events and Tom's car was back up on the trailer. So you weren't the only one. You got plenty of valuable info from Josh, so that's a good consolation prize. There will be another opportunity next spring.

BTW, I think any of the above pics are available through Dwayne to be placed on brushed aluminum in any size you want. Hopefully everyone at the show saw the samples and there is a pic of my 83 in the garage with the samples on my engine. I think he is also still working on some proofs of other photos, and likely the photos going down the line with each owner in front of their cars. I'm sure he will pop back in this thread with more images and info on ordering. I can't wait to see the pics of my cars before we did the line up. I know they are goin to look great!

Oh no, don't get me wrong, the garage with Josh was worth missing the pictures. It still would have been nice though. Already looking forward to the next one!

Holy crap! I have seen this car before then! Pretty sure that I talked briefly with the owner a long time ago when I was in Apex and ran in to him in Cary. . .small world.

Louie - any time you need a DeLorean fix come on back out here and we will hook you up.

Awesome! I hope you keep those dark grey wheels & center caps!

You know, I might just take y'all up on that. My folks still live out by Lake Tillery, and I have to visit them at some point. Might as well see some DeLorean folk when I venture into that neck of the woods again, too!

Louie, I'd be offended if you came to NC and didn't let me know about it! I know you'd have family time, and that is understandable. But how about some time for your "oldest" DeLorean friend! Keep in touch buddy, and welcome back again to being active in the community!

I wouldn't dream of losing them! Out of curiosity, what was the owner asking for it back in '03?

It would appear so. Any idea what year that was/if he was selling back then? I ask because I can't figure out why it would have taken him this long to get it sold. From my experience it's been the perfect restoration candidate and real gem.

I *think* he was asking $11k, but that's been a long time ago now. Not to mention that between previously owning 2 different DeLoreans myself, and being in the community since the late '90s, I've gone to look at countless DeLoreans over the years. Anyway- back then, the car really wasn't worth what he was asking for it. If I had the time to restore the car back then, I would have haggled with him & probably would have found a price we could both agree on. From what I recall, the car had mainly cosmetic issues & would be a pretty straightforward restoration. I'm glad the car found it's way to you, it is a neat example & it sounds like you are the right steward for it.
