Does anyone here know James? I've purchased parts from him on Ebay, and more than a month later they have not arrived, and he is not returning my messages via Ebay. I tried to PM him here but it looks like he is not very active on the board...

You always have to option of sorting things out even after the dispute is opened. This just starts the mediation process and since paypal automatically draws the sum in question from the defendant's account(until an agreement or decision has been made), it lights a fire under them as well to get the problem resolved.

I had actually written off getting my money back, but after a few emails, the funds were returned in PayPal.

He was selling some unique stainless steel stuff, so at some point he was either a good fabricator or had commissioned work.

Sounds like this is common practice. I have not gotten any PMs assuring me he's a stand up guy, on the other hand...

Paypal will eventually get me my $ back.
