After going through some vintage DeLorean World magazines, I decided I wanted a "period correct" aftermarket spoiler on my custom D to set if off a bit. I'm aware this is one of those things you either love or hate, so not everyone will appreciate this. In any case, here are some pictures!

Love your car but never been a big fan of the spoiler. Not a fan of the spoiler in general unless it serves a real purpose like on a super bird.

Not really feeling that spoiler. There's only one that I've seen that I really liked. I'll try and dig up the pic but it's on my old computer.

Nice job on the install! The styling and color match the car well. Thanks for posting pics!

Do your lover struts still actually work?

Sure do! I was surprised. They are holding it up strong. I can't remember which vendor I bought them from.

I think the combo stripe, rims, and spoiler, plus being lowered, looks pretty awesome! To me it gives it a very modern feel. I don't think other cars could pull it off as well. Have you considered the side skirts? Someday I'm going to get around to installing mine. I think your car would look good with them.

I have new struts from DMCCA on my car (the longer ones because I have the Louver support brace with engine cover stay) and they are crazy strong. I'm pretty sure they'd have no problem holding a spoiler too.

I've debated getting only the sideskirts, not the front/rear ground effects. But at the moment I have Toby's brackets that bend down the stock side valances and make them look more appealing while hiding the underbody.

I have one of the louvre braces coming my way for Christmas, so I have a hunch I might need the DMCCA struts. I *think* the ones I have now are from Hervey several years ago, and they are incredibly strong even with the heavy spoiler. I'm hoping they are long enough to accomodate the louvre brace.

Here is a copy of the advertisement from DeLorean World offering this type of spoiler as well as other vintage goodies.

I think we have the same spoiler. Its off of a older 3rd gen f-body Trans Am. The only difference is yours is turned reverse of mine:

We do have the same spoiler. I got mine off of a 1992 Trans Am. Having it reversed does give it an entirely different look! I like how the pointed parts match the pointed ends of the louvre bottom.

Yours looks really good :) however, when mine is reversed like yours,(just wanted to see what it looked like when I first put on my ground effects years ago) and it just doesn't look right for some reason on mine....the ground effects package seems to throw it off for some reason :ehh:

I'm kinda digging the spoiler- seems to make the car more complete or futuristic feeling. Reminds me of Syd Mead's cars of the future..

Thanks! They are XXR 502s. 17" on the front, 18" on the rears. They do fit the factory bolt pattern, however the rears use custom spacers to offset them.

As much as I like the OEM rims, those do look very nice and make the car feel like it's from now vs. the 80's. I'd like to see someone come up with an updated look for the headlights - maybe one piece with projector lamps and the LED eyebrows or rims like on the Audi's or new Caddy's.

Thanks for your compliments! That is exactly the look I was going for...something a bit more modern but keeping the "DeLorean feel" alive. I always HATED the way aftermarket rims looked on the DeLorean. In my mind, anything other than stock wheels looked way out of place on the car. But when I first saw Faisal's DeLorean with the XXR rims, I fell in love at first sight! I pestered him for details and finally was able to track down a set for myself. IIRC, the rears were readily available but the fronts took several weeks to track down. I also got a lot of input from Toby Peterson regarding rear wheel spacers, tuner lug nuts, etc. In the long run, it was well worth the effort as I've never been as happy with my DeLorean as I am today!

Well, as a guy who believes in keeping a classic car stock (I had and restored a 1963 23 Window VS Bus), there is sometimes room for interpretation as long as it doesn't deface the natural beauty of a car designer's intention.

Example- a new Cadillac CTS with 20 inch rims and lo-pro tires.. ugh.

That's the look I am going to go with, Faisal's car. But black ground effects, and those style rims, probably black with silver lip.

I opted to not use the heavy fiberglass ground effects. Instead I obtained some custom made brackets to bend down the OEM plastic ground effects to achieve a similar look. I attached a picture, please excuse the dirt on them! :)

Will you share where you got those
Brackets? I have the GE on one of my DeLoreans, that's a nice mod that is not obvious that I'd like to do to my other DeLorean.

They really are a great product! This is the last set of brackets that I got from a particular vendor that wishes to remain anonymous until more sets are made up. :) I will let them chime in here or make an official announcement when more brackets are available for sale.

Made some ground effects from two ply rubber belting from Fleet Farm. Because they're rubber I can drive over speed bumps with impunity even though I have 1" of clearance. Been on there For 19 years and still look new.

Curious, are the Brackets SS? How many per side?

Lightweight aluminum. 1 bracket per side.

Ok,

I take it they are a formed channel running nearly full length of the skirt.

You can get the same cool look with just a couple of hockey sticks and a piece of wood.

The solid eyebrows in the first picture look OK.

The LED's on the headlights in the second picture just remind me of Dame Edna's glasses - not a fan of those at all.

I completely agree. If you want to buy a strip of LED's from autozone and stick them on your car for a fake Audi look go ahead, but be prepared to be laughed at. There's at least one company out there that has figure out how to make glass rings using Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lighting (CCFL) for a solid ring of light, ala BMW's headlight halos.

It would be cool if there was a way to take or make a longer headlamp that is the length of the two headlights but with projector lamps and the solid eyebrow like the Audi or even a BMW. That way we still have the rectangular look but more updated.

EvilDan used Chevy Celebrity headlights with custom brackets to achieve an updated, one-piece rectangular look.

There is a local owner in the DMA with a heavily modified D painted flat black that has also customized his headlamps. He now uses the lamps out of a 95 Mercury Sable/Ford Taurus if I am not mistaken. They are one long plastic rectangle, as opposed to the 4 squares normal D's have. I do not believe he had to modify the front fascia all that much to get them to fit, although I am completely unsure about what he did electrically to get them to work, or what is even behind the lens of them.

IIRC, the ones on that car are from a 95 Mercury Marquis/Ford Crown Vic. Nice Look !!
