View Full Version : What'd you get for Christmas?

Yeah, it's a little early but I got one of my presents yesterday because it's too large and heavy to hide.

http://uploads.m-cgi.com/kennyz/temp/toy01.jpg

Now I have something that has enough CFM I can use my sprayguns. I hope to strip and paint Red's fascias as soon as I feel confident with my painting skill. I still have to run power to it and plumb some new air lines before I can play with it.

Well, not really Christmas but WingsALoft Door Launchers installed and working, and I have completely reassembled the psgr door. Driver's door will be done after Christmas break.

As for presents, I hit Harbor Freight today....(:....

My next DeLorean goodies will be the headliner kit from DMCMW.....soon.

Seattle Seahawks in the playoffs is what I got. Thats enough for me. When im walking down the street wearing a jersey or cap and a fellow Hawks fan and I exchange that nod that says, "Hell yeah!" Or when my buddies shoot me a Hawks related text...my days go better. Im the same about F1 and WRC racing. I dont fault people over their choice of team to root for. I wish any fan the excitement and good times I have while enjoying the sports.

Not really sure what I got from my wife or anyone else yet. But after several months of looking for a new place and finally moving, I finally brought the DeLorean to my new home. It's been in my parents garage since early october and I only used it once for the DMA fall foliage tour. For me the best Christmas present I could have is bringing that car home....again.

My kids got me a pair of those tools from Lowes (Kobalt) that always seem to materialize at Christmas. The first is a ratchet that has an extending rotating handle that also turns the ratchet. Pretty neat for those hard to reach, hard-to-get-any-motion, locations. Just twist it. Seems pretty solidly built and comes with a lifetime warranty from Lowes. The other is a ratcheting screwdriver. Hold the collar and then no matter which way you turn the handle it converts to the appropriate screwing direction. Neat. Again, seems pretty sturdy. That was as close as I got to a car gift.

Wifey got me a Nexus 7 tablet. Am looking into rooting it and playing around with some of the peripherals you can attach once rooted. Would make a cool on-board system (music, gps, megasquirt realtime gauges, etc.) And a cool throwback item...... a telephone handset that plugs into your cellphone! Freakin hilarious yet very helpful.

Does anyone else think that correlating the D with taking a shit might send the wrong message? It's nothing that calling it "the throne" won't fix. Although if you really want to go overkill, Neo-Metro makes a stainless steel toilet here (http://www.neo-metro.com/tank-style-toilets/metro-urban-toilet.html), roughly $2,800 for satin finish, and roughly $4,000 for a mirror finish. If I had a disposable income, I would most certainly be going this route, if nothing else then just for shiggles.

Might have to get me one of those Ikea SS toilet lids.

Its a TV. What the hell were you thinking? Shame on you.

Its a cheapie off-brand 24" LED 1080P. Its brightness, contrast ratio, viewing angle, and sound quality is nothing you'd want in your living room, but in the bedroom its perfect. I've wanted for a while now a TV directly in front of the bed. To mount in front of the bed, it needed to go on the closet door, a pair of bi-folds. Requirements would have to be the thinnest/lightest TV possible, so an LED backlit TV was the only choice. Not wanting to drill holes in the hollow veneered particle board doors, I needed to devise a "hanging" way of mounting it. So I found this metal over-the-door hanger from Target.

15695

I bent the hooks mostly flat, with a slight downward angle. Then attached the cheapie fixed-mount (no adjustments at all) via a single nut/bolt, and two zip-ties. The backside of the over-the-door hanger is then attached to the door with double-sided "command hook" tape from 3M. This allows the metal hanger to bear the load of the TV, while the tape prevents other motion. No damage to the door at all.

1569615697

The TV then hangs on it, facing slightly downward directly towards the bed with the closet doors closed. The TV does not interfere with the right-side door when opening the left. And it only sticks out about 6 inches further than the door itself when open. Easy to get used to not bumping your head into. The wires, power, HDMI, and Antenna got zip-tied to the hanger going over the top of the door. Then they follow back behind the door to the outside hinge where they wrap around to the power and Blu-ray player. This allows them to effortlessly flex while the door is operated without damaging them.

1569315694

The 24" is probably the largest I could go and still leave normal operation of the closet doors. Perhaps a 26" or 27" would fit too, but I'd have to do exact measurements.

Was that Used one taken "out of service" due to upgrading to the modern LED style units?

Was that Used one taken "out of service" due to upgrading to the modern LED style units?I doubt it. Generally they only need to replace the lenses and the bulbs, not the entire unit itself. The reflector may or may not need to be removed as well, but I have yet to see an entire fixture like that replaced for that reason. There's still plenty of older incandescent bulb traffic lights floating around in warehouses and collections and whatnot, so finding one isn't hard if you know where to look.

Fun fact: the bulbs can be replaced with the ubiquitous run-of-the-mill 60w incandescents. Normally they come with much bigger bulbs running a higher wattage (70 if I recall correctly, but don't quote me on that), but they can easily be replaced with the same kind that go in your house with no ill side effects other than slightly reduced brightness, which itself may be desired depending on proximity -- those things are bright as hell from three feet away.

I'm curious, what creativity did she use to get the picture? Sounds like a very nice present! :)

My wife is not computer literate so had no idea how to get the pictures off my Mac. So she, and her mother, spent (quite a few) few weeks occasionally mentioning that her mother would like some pictures of one of our daughters burned to disc (knowing full well I'd put it off). They made it sound VERY casual and hence no priority on doing it at all and just randomly mentioned it from time to time, which made me think nothing of it at all - had they "spontaneously" wanted such a disc immediately I would have asked questions, she knows me well! After a few weeks they got a bit more serious about it, and then the time came that her mother was wrapping up at work for the year so could I please now burn them - oh and "while I'm at it" I "might as well toss in some pictures of my DeLorean" as a few of her colleagues at work were intrigued. Very clever as I thought nothing of it at all and, after confirming the D pickies needed be nothing more than a few favourites, burned the disc - when in fact they've since admitted they never needed such a disc at all, it was a multi-week conspiracy to simply get a digital copy of a favourite photograph of my DeLorean :)

Not what I did get for Christmas, but what I DIDN'T. In fact, what no one in Ontario will be getting for Christmas again. Coal. At least not in the air we breathe from the way we produce electricity.

I certainly can't lay a big claim to much of this myself, but can say I did at least one tiny part by helping to get the remaining 2 nuclear reactors online and returned to service while I was working there.

Excellent! Yeah, I love the look of the RaceDeck! Low maintenance and looks 1000x better than a concrete floor! The only bummer so far is it seems each job is custom so pricing is extremely subjective. Been reading a lot over at Garage Journal, and it appears the average price is $3 per square foot.
