removing weather seal glue...what do you recommend?

I am regluing my trunk weatherstripping with 3M 80001 gorilla snot. What do you recommend to remove the old glue from the black plastic backing? I want to make sure I dont damage or discolor it.

The full description is 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner. Item number 08984.
Goo Gone does exactly the same thing.

Then remove the adhesive cleaner by cleaning the area with denatured alcohol before gluing the seal back into place.

And I found it so much easier to do when I removed the hood (bonnet) and laid it down on the carpeted floor.
