I wonder whatever happened to Swayze's D?

As of 2009 it was my understanding that his widow Lisa owned the car.

Here is a DML post suggesting Lisa has it: http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/dmcnews/message/79960

Here is a post saying Swayze still owned it in 2003:

Not sure I am understanding? I posted a a link to instagram about a rockstar driving a delorean, and someone politely posted that there was a dedicated thread for "celebrities in deloreans." I asked the moderator to move it, but it didn't happen. So I let that thread die and reposted it here, in the correct thread. Should I not have posted it here? Personally I am a fan of uploading photos to this site, rather than linking to IG, imgur, flickr etc, so that pictures don't disappear in a year or two when the picture is deleted or the link goes dead.

Don't know what what CEI is, but I asked my friend who posted the pic if it's his car. It's not his; my friend said: "it's the original from the movie & he was just posing with it."

Mark D

The original screen used "A Car" is still owned by Universal Studios and is on display at the theme park in California. The car in the picture is without a doubt a replica. "CEI" is Bruce Coulombe's company...the car in the photo looks like one of the cars he's built or some other replica builder's car.

The only screen used DeLorean time machine in private hands is one of the Part III offroad cars. The others were either destroyed during filming (B Car), destroyed after decaying for decades on the back lot, or are still owned by Universal.

Has anyone ever seen a mention of whether Bono or the Edge or anyone else in the band U2 has had an interest in DeLoreans?

I've never seen a reference myself, but was just curious.

They released a new album the other day (free download on iTunes, btw) and the last song on the album is called "The Troubles." The album description mentions it's a tribute of sorts to many of their influences, from their time in Dublin to their move to California.

It's hard for me to think of growing up through the 80s and 90s and not have some memories tied to U2 and their music. Heck, maybe Sinead O'Connor has a DeLorean too. :)

Dangermouse
09-15-2014, 01:27 PM
Now that you mention it, No, I haven't.

I'm a big U2 fan (really must get round to d/l that album), but not a big Bono fan - his patronizing intros to live performances of Sunday Bloody Sunday really tick me off, although it is a great song.

Reading the lyrics of The Troubles, it seems like it is more like personal stuff rather than the 30 year event known as "The Troubles", and probably should have been named differently from an Irish band, so as not to link the two things.

I don't think famous Dubliners in the 80s, like U2, would have had much affinity with the D, tbh. Now perhaps Van Morrison or Snow Patrol may have one stashed away.

The most famous Dunmurryman - guitarist Vivian Campbell - doesn't even have one as far as I know

https://www.driven.co.nz/news/watch-we-talk-country-music-and-deloreans-zooming-with-driven-ep117/

Watch: We talk country music and DeLoreans! Zooming with DRIVEN EP117

In the latest episode of Zooming with DRIVEN Sam and Dean talk to country music star Miranda Easten about her music and - more importantly (well, to us at least!) - her DMC DeLorean.

Miranda fell in love with the DeLorean when she first saw one in - you guessed it - Back to the Future and has gone on to own three in the years since!

But it's not just a friendly chat - Dean also tests Miranda and Sam on their DeLorean knowledge with a quiz (spoiler alert: Miranda destroys Sam...) on the iconic car.
