Scion FR-S

No car has gotten this much attention and acclaim for a very long time. First saw one several months ago. A firearms instructor bought one where I work. First impressions of the styling was that it was above average, especially for a Scion. That was before I knew it had a boxer engine, it's weight distribution and handling characteristics. Jeremy Clarkson has even said that there's "no reason to drive anything else." Keep in mind he is saying that about a car with a mere 200 HP and goes from 0-60 in 7.2 seconds.

Im sorry, but honestly it's a pretty damn decent car. If I were looking for a zoom around town car, i'd be glad to take something like this.

I'm lucky to have driven the hell out of one for some time, and can say it is a fantastic car. Here's a shot I took at a Formula D Drift event when we had the Drift Office AE86 and the GT86 (FR-S) out at Monroe Speedway Washington on 7/20/2012. The only thing I could say I didn't truly enjoy was the weight of the steering at speed and it was good but not great. I like this car much more than my old 350Z but not as much as my E30 M3. It would not be a mistake to buy one if this is a car you're looking at, BR-Z or FR-S.

My friends and I do a yearly run up Mt St Helens in mostly our Toyotas. I am driving my 87 St-165 Celica Turbo following the Corolla GT-S hatchback and the FR-S is in forward. We send a scout car and have radios so we can feed a little more to the horses on the twisty parts. Swapping cars and passangers at times. Its a heck of a good way to spent a Saturday.

Have to say that I am a big fan of these cars as well, maybe even more so the BRZ than the FRS.

Initial reviews were glowing, hardly a fault found during the short test drive/loan.

Here is a different perspective, a YouTube review. The reviewer is documenting living with an FRS, and he doesn't hold back - which he has taken a lot of flak for, but it's refreshing to hear a balanced review.

It's a long video, has some whining (some justified), quirky owner perhaps, but in a whole it is a valuable insight into living with this car, way outside the scope of a typical magazine review.
