Here I want to start a thread documenting the various engine configurations that have been installed in the back of our cars over the years.

To post, please

1. Description of Engine
2. Good photo of Engine
3. Video of engine running (if possible)

Starting with the factory standard (not mine as it doesn’t sound too good)

1. PRV, 2.85L, 130HP, mechanical fuel injection, exhaust with dual catalytic convertors

2. http://dmctalk.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=1939&d=1309468652

so, come on owners, let’s see those engines – turbos, V8’s, carbs, Stage IIs, Spec IIs, Megasquirts, 3.0L, Nissans, Supras,

EDIT - crap - just saw the other engine pic thread, that has only just been started. Sorry, didn't mean to steal any thunder. Great minds must think alike.

i think we could use this thread to discuss in our opinions what the ultimate motor for a D could be. 3 engines i think that would be awesome for a D given enough time for conversion:

#1 GTR Skyline straight 6 turbo-produced roughly 525-550hp out of the factory ( if we could get the D's trans to handle that or custom make a trans for it

#2 Ford 302 coyote: DOHC 5.0l 302 with 400 horsepower

#3 Ford mustang 3.7 liter V6 out of the mustangs: 300-310 HP i do beleive.

I would still go for the 4G63T mitsubishi 2.0L turbo.

V8 Hyabusa Motor that weights 200 lbs and fits into any 4 cylinder compartment, with HP at 400 + and revs to 10,000RPM

If only I had $30,000 for a motor.....

+1 for this. Love those DSM's and their turbos!

No, no we couldn't 8)

That would be a "Fantasy Engine" thread

what I had in mind was a library of existing completed engine types - such as :

Rotary engined car:

Mazda 20B - 1.962L, 300HP, 297 lbft,

Ive been looking to do an isuzu V6 swap. i own a '99 Trooper and love that engine

isuzu 6VE1
3.5L DOHC
all aluminum
forged internals
6 bolt mains
variable intake length
variable cam timing ( '00 and later)
coil on plug
230hp
255tq
weighs about 30lbs more than PRV
'04 engines were gasoline direct injection (first in N america) added 30hp and 5 mpg
its a popular engine to modify in Oz, supposedly there are people getting near 1000hp out of these for drag racing, ive yet to find proof though

Yes, and it looks like its meant to be there - the mark of a truly well done engine swap.

looking at a japanese sourced powerplant (ideally a 2jz supra motor). what tranny options exist to mate to such a motor? i imagine it would have to be something from the Porsche parts bin?

I am happy with my VQ35 swap... Adding the ProCharger C2 may have been a little overkill.

Don't you dare say that! Your car is EPIC!

Thanks for the kind words, but part of my definition of "ultimate" is practical and cost effective.. Adding the blower did give me more power, but in retrospect the cost/effort to do it was not worth it.

i believe you can use the DeLorean Trans to mount up to the 2JZ with some modification. i saw it on another D at a car show this year..

Quite a bit of modification. That's (now) Cliff S. car here in Cincinnati/Lebanon Ohio. But the way that the previous owner (Ed down in FL) facilitated the mating was that the bell housing from the supra transmission and the bell housing for the DeLorean transmission were each cut in half, then two halves were tig welded together so that the supra bellhousing still mounts to the engine. Not exactly a simple mod. Plus to fit the inline 6 engine, the transmission is shifted forward 8 inches or so, and the crank pully is still inside the fascia. Still it's an excellent looking swap, very well done.
