There's no standard. It depends on what alternator you are retrofitting.

My car HAD the 1994 Chevy Lumina conversion on it when I got it, when it died on me 2 weeks ago I found out it was a poor retrofit. The alternator from a 91-97 Saturn 1.9 L (CS130) 105 amp, clockwise rotation, 3:00 plug location, 2 ears with the double ears fits perfectly. You may have to change your plug, mine was already changed from factory original. All I have been doing on this car is fixing previous repairs, its getting old fast.

I've had precisely 2 problems with my car ever that were factory or design related. Almost everything has been caused by the PO.

I just helped an owner not too long ago with their alternator and Saturn alternator was suggested. The owner went with that and car works really well. Hint it's a Bttf replica.
