Has anyone considered LED headlights? I found these LED headlights from JW Speaker tonight. They are quite expensive, but they look awesome. Check out the demo video at the bottom of the page here:

They look cool, but I just replaced all my headlights, they were about $8 each. Maybe if the LED ones were like $50 each, I might consider them.

The price is nuts!
I am currently looking at those

You can get those cheaper from Amazon. See: http://amzn.to/172jzKD

What is the advantage to LED headlights? those look like nice units but $500 bucks is alot to spend on a couple lights. I always thought the advantage was current draw, but these still suck up alot of amps.

niiiiiiceee!!!!:hmm::hmm::hmm:
Thanx.. Anyone installed these before? are they any good?

Those come with HI and LOW beam in one, so you would have twice the lighting power if installed double.

From what I understand, the connector for the H4 bulbs is the same, but you have to either use an adaptor or do this to your connectors:

Josh,

They are solid state, which means they will last nearly forever. The color temperature is 5500K, and they produce 1300 lumens with only 42watts.

Ever use a LED flashlight?

I just found a manufacturer in China who makes some of these 4x6 LED headlights and I sent them a request for samples.

As I read they have about 850 useful lumens. A plain old 4x6 will output over 1000 lumens and at 55W. I dont really see a benifit there. However that is a good point about the color temp.

Yes I have used a LED flashlight... :P

Again, why use the LEDs when HIDs produce a fantastic beam!?

Wait a year or two for LED headlights. They are doing amazing work now in designing better LEDs everyday.

Very strong point!!!! And if LEDs get better with their beams and lumens, then that irritating HID ballast charge will be history. Prices will drop also as time passes.

That's not really a fair comparison as the Lamp sizes are different. I can say from experience from vehicles, it's not much of a difference. Mostly just the color temp is different and reduced current amount(not a huge drop but still something), also LEDs tend to have a long lifespan(not sure how that compares to HID though). But going from Filament to LED would be a heavy improvement, but it all depends on user's preference to be honest.

Certainly looks cool!!
But did you see the cooling ribs on the reverse side?
I think those types of LED's get very hot, not good for you facia!

LED will be way better than HIDs
HIDs have TWO things that need replacement. The ballast lives 3 years aprox. (about $50-$80 each) and then the bulb its self that lasts about 5 years (another $50-$80 each)

Rightfully mentioned, heat must be avoided. If those LEDs have their Ballast located externally, then it would be a much better deal.

The engineers are also improving the electronics for LEDs. So wait as long as you can. That will reduce the wasted heat generated. The LEDs do need cooling anyway on those high power LEDs.

I also doudt if they would fit into the lightbuckets we have in the Delorean.
Agree with Dave, LED technology goes very fast.
