Hi again,

I have been communicating with David and Jon about having a tech day on June 15th in Sacramento. As my introduction thread shared, many great things happened over the last few years putting my car on the backburners. It has been a while since my car got attention and after a year and a half of sitting (with an occasional ride around the block) I would love to get the car tuned and smoged (the mechanics changed all the ratios and told e to replace the fuel distributor and cat converter... I'm not 100% that those are the problems). There are some cosmetic issues I would love to get some advice on as well.

Mostly, I would like to make acquaintances with the group again. I have a house with a BBQ (gas and charcoal)! and a backyard with side driveway to support the kind of enthusiasts we are :)

Anybody interested?

BTY - I also posted at the Facebook group so sorry if this is repeated information.

thanks,
Brian

Hey when you say me and David, did you mean David S or David P? I know David S put us in touch originally so I'm assuming that's who you mean. You're gonna want to meet David P too, he's pretty local to you and a great guy. I'll make sure he sees this thread.

I'll be there. I should be able to bring the Delorean too.
Do you need us to bring anything food wise?
David S.

Great! I'll be supplying basics like soda, chips BBQ items (like hamburgers and hot dogs). I'll have some Coors light (you know...silver bullet and all). But if you have anything special you like to share that would be welcomed as well.
It looks like the weather will be in the lower 90s ish... so I'm hoping to make it more of a morning/early afternoon event. But I wont be kicking anybody out either. Does 10am sound good?

I think I may be able to make it as well on the 15th if there's enough room for one more !

Looks like a good gathering. Just for reference I live in a typical 1 story house. The backyard is pretty big so no problem accommodating people. The garage a 2 car but I'll just have my DeLorean in the middle for the day. The street is a court so the only traffic is neighbors. The driveway can accommodate two additional cars but it is on an incline.

House is on Rocky Trail ct in Sacramento if you want to google it.

What are we planning to address at this one? Any specific things on your mind?

Hand-Schaub

yeah, that's a pretty good question.

Well, a year and a half ago the car did not pass smog. High HC. I had this shop doing the smog work on it and they adjusted all kinds of stuff. They ultimately said I need a new fuel distributor and catalytic converter. This may be true... but it may not be. The car is all out of tune now, specifically it does not recover from acceleration. It lopes at idle.
The car at this point is now a sitter. It has been turned over and ran to keep things moving but for the most part it is out of tune and not a legal driver.

There are several cosmetic issues and a major door issue I would like some recommendations for.

In general it is a car that was a vibrant daily drivers that has been ignored or unprofessionally played with. I would appreciate the knowledge and guidance from other owners most of all so I know what my next steps are. I'll be making my list and planning the steps to get it back to its former glory which should be the goal of all DeLorean owners right

Cool we should be able to figure out some issues, Jon has gotten proficient at adjusting doors with his car and we can compare against mine which most all the guys agree work better than most around.

What time are you thinking?

Definitely, we can do a really comprehensive inspection and tell you what needs looking at, what the priorities should be, etc. Do you have a jack and stands? We will need to get under the car to make some calls.

And yes, Clint's doors are a marvel of DeLorean perfection that most of can only hope to aspire to.... they close almost as though someone gave some thought to the design, rather than just more or less clanking shut like a rusty gate :)

I'm thinking 10:00 am would be best. This way we have cooler temperatures and an afternoon to eat as well.

Excellent about the doors. The passenger side door has a dent in it which I did myself. I'm going between attempting further repair or changing it out. I'm pretty sure the passenger door is out of line. It hits at the "T" on top of the car.

I do have a jack, metal ramps and can even get some stands if needed. I do have an assortment of tools but not too comprehensive. My air compressor is 36 years old but works :) I have had so many other hobbies/events take my time that I could never really develop the tool collection. I have the garage of course but also have a covered car port on the side of the house.

If anybody here likes Citroen cars, I have a 2CV Charleston to check out too.

Now that I am excited to see (the Citroen). Stands might be a good idea so we can get way under, you'll definitely need them to do all your jobs anyway.

I didn't know you had French car like this in the USA!

I imported it from Holland. My cousins there deal in all kinds of cars and he had an 87 grey on grey 2CV that I liked. In the US they need to be imported with older titles (smog requirements). Can you imagine a 2CV with smog components on it? It would get at most 3 horsepower!

Hey guys, just a heads up for those of us who have to venture anywhere near Davis tomorrow - it is commencement day at UC. Ceremonies are at 9 AM, 2 PM and 7 PM. We would all be well advised to avoid the causeway in the hour or so leading up to each ceremony. 10 AM start time should be fine since we'll be on the road during the 9 AM ceremony, but as for coming home... keep this in mind for timing.

Jeez Brian, you work too much :)

On the plus side (not for me, I guess) that means I'm the only one who has to worry about Davis traffic.

Way too much! The extra work did fund an order from DMC MW for the fancy new fuel pump / sender combo and a new brake master cylinder... So I guess I can't complain.

See you guys in the morning.

Thank you everybody so much for driving out and sharing your knowledge. As I'm sure most of you are aware, this was the first step to getting my car back in shape or better yet, in better shape than it was. I'll have a few pictures up soon. I think my brother in law took some good ones so we'll see.

Of course I'm making my shopping list now and it's already up to $600. But that's including new trans rubber mounts and a new catalytic converter.

Just after everyone left I cleaned my ground posts and when tightening it back on...snap! I guess my massively muscular arms held no mercy for that poor screw post. It's amazing how maintenance turns into projects.

Thanks again!

Thanks for hosting Brian! You're a terrific host. We all enjoyed viewing your great collection and incredible creations, you are very talented. I wish I had the time and patience to make stuff like that but my Delorean seems to take it all up.

I agree with Clint! Amazing creations. Thanks so much for having us over, it was a blast! Sorry I had to duck out a little early, but it was a great time! I think you are well on your way to getting it smogged successfully. Looking forward to seeing you at future events, with or without your car.
