The title says it all, and I know pictures are a poor way of giving detailed analysis on anything, but in your best opinion, is this tire still "good"? I have to get my car inspected very soon and I dont have money for a new tire, so it would be invaluble to know if this tire is good.

Thanks,
Jared

No. If you can't afford a new tire go get a used one.

How much do used tires usually cost and last? Also, would any place that sells tires sell used tires?

That tire is a factory original on my daily driver 5/30/2006 with 37676.6 miles on it and counting.

I think you need to pickup your phone book and start calling around for an question like that. Where I live used tires range from $15 - $40 depending on where you go. How long it will last depends on what condition it is in.

Depending on what kind of tire it's probably at the end of its usefulness. Most performance tires rarely make it to 40K miles so I'd replace it pretty quickly if i were you.

Right now, I have three 1-2 year old Fuzion tires on my car and one factory original Falken 5 year old tire with almost 38000 miles on it. I plan on getting a used tire on Monday to just get me by until I can afford a full new set. I am putting a new fuel filter in my car, getting a tune-up with ol change (AMSOIL and K&N filter) along with changing my cabin air filter. I am waiting until my pay finally comes in to drain my tranny and case as well as change that filter and my car should be good for quite some time. :)

<EDIT>
Not sure if anyone uses Bosch cabin air filters here or not, but I ordered one for the Mustang, any idea if it is any good?

Interesting, nobody in town seems to have my size tire used.. Apparently is is a "Very rare size" Any thoughts on this? I need a tire bad, but cannot afford a new one..

Try wal-mart own-brand, sometimes as cheap as a used one.

Obviously not great tires, so no burnouts or racing.

My friend bought two Hardly Used front tires for his 1995 Acura Integra for about 60 dollars out the door. I would try finding a used tire shop if I were you.

It costs $131 a tire at walmart, for my car.. That is the least expensive one they have.. :(

I don't think I have one in this area, but I will keep looking..

Drive to the nearest military town. I guarantee they'll have some

That would be quite a distance away.. It would cost more to drive that far than a new tire would cost.. I think I will go with a new walmart Goodyear tire.. $131 that I don't have.. :(

Just ask a friend who has the same wheel bolt pattern to borrow his wheels and get it inspected. Then swap them back.

That would be a problem.. I only have 2 friends and I am fairly certain neither of them have a tire that fits my car..

One drives a 2000 Ford Escort

The other a 2004 Ford Focus

And I of course have a 2006 Ford Mustang GT

Good idea, but does not work with me unfortunately.. I may have to bite the bullet on this one and just get a tire..

Well, I am out of ideas and out of money and soon to be out of time.. I know not what to do. My unit did not have a drill this month, so I am low on money and could not locate a used tire to fit my car (Size 255/45). Anyone have any ideas, because I am out of them and about to lose it.

I hate encouraging this but now would be the time to use a credit card. If you don't have a credit card apply for financing at the tire place. It is safer to have a little debt than to risk your life driving on an old tire.

What does the state inspect on the car w.r.t. tires. If it just tire depth, then the suggestion above of borrowing the Fusions 4 wheels would work OK.

If they make sure that you have the correct tire for the car, which seems unlikely, then obviously this won't work

The only credit card I have is a Military Star Card, which will not work in the civilian world, only at designated places on a military installation. I tried to get a regular credit card, but I was turned down. Plus, my military star already has some debt that I am making minimum payments on until I get put on active duty status; which will be when I pay that debt off.

What Fusion?

Could going there with a spare tire on and telling them it just went flat, but did not have time before inspection to get a tire (As it is a size nobody keeps in stock "Rare size") but will get one afterwards work?

Focus, then.

Don't know. GA doesn't have inspections like this.

What happens if you fail?

I get a rejection sticker and have to pay for another inspection.. Do you think the Focus' tires will fit on my car?

I meant swapping wheels, not just tires. Have no idea, you'll have to try one.

Of course, you should get you own tire replaced as soon as you can for safety's sake. No more buying trinkets (even things like cabin air filters) for the 'stang until that's taken care of :)

To be honest, I don't really care about my own safety, it's staying afloat that concerns me. No job, no money, no drill this past month and a bunch of other things that have been accumulating for quite some time. I replaced the Cabin air filter a few weeks ago and have a fuel filter sitting around, because of my lack of tools to install it. I think I may try the spare tire thing, if that fails, I will ask my friend if I can borrow his wheels (Or at least try to fit one on the car first). My insurance payment took the majority of my money, I only have about $1.80 in the bank and a car payment in a few days.. So close to paying the car off, but so close to losing it at the same time.

I've read about the financial hardship, a year ago I replaced all tires on my 05 stang gt all around for about 900 bucks. I went with the factory pirelli's that came standard on 05's.

I would try and get your car inspected, don't say anything, don't do anything. Go to one of those "in the wall" places. They are renowned for giving out passes for stuff that is on the edge, something that would not pass in a dealership. Why? A dealership can make money off of you by selling their services, where a place like that looses money because you have to come back to get re-tested. And that is usually not at the same rate.

Just keep your right foot under control. The GT is a sportscoupe, and those command your tires to be in good order. Especially in rain. When you get the money, get your tires replaced. It would have been fine if you had friends with a mustang, then you'd just swap wheels. Common practice I hear. And when is the last time you got pulled over for anything other than a speeding ticket?

Roman Legion

I have only ever been pulled over once, but go off of it; so my driving record is clean. I don't need an entire new set of tires, just the front passenger tire. What "In the wall" place do you mean? I live out in the middle of nowhere.. I have a voucher for a free inspection from the Chrysler Dealership, which do not sell Fords, but they would get me on the tire, as they do sell those.. The tire is fine to drive on, just low tread, I am not worried about losing control.. I drove this tire on ice clad and snow covered roads just a few months ago in the winter without problem, a little rain is the least of my worries.

Here in Texas you have places, other than dealerships, that do inspections only. That is what I refer to as "hole in the wall" places. They can't fix anything, can't upsell anything, just tell you to get your car fixed so they can retest you. But they might let you go on the tire. They might not even notice.

Roman Legion

I don't know if we have anything like that around here.. All the places that do inspections seem to all do repairs..

My inspection sticker is now officially expired, I guess I will just have to risk it and hope I don't get caught for now.

I thought I was double screwed yesterday, I had to drive somewhere almost on fumes and with the expired sticker.. I made is half a mile when I saw a police car watching the road I live on.. I just slowed down and once I got out of sight, I gunned it and hit the interstate.. Bad for my low fuel level, but a ticket is worse.. :dead:
