Looks like Nick has some company. I think this is in Australia, not sure.

Anyone planning on doing this mod, don't forget the sandbags in the trunk to keep your front wheels on the ground.

Does Nick's have the exhaust running backwards like that (towards the front of the car)? Wonder where the exhaust tips will end up?

This guy has both his exhaust and intake running opposite ways of nick's. He also didnt chop out a section of the frame to clear the harmonic balancer. Looks like a very nice swap. Very big engine to stuff into one of these cars.

Yeah thats is well done swap. I really like the exhaust, I hope the motor mounts are stiff or those beautiful headers might hit the frame rails when it revs hard.

Two cats over the trans, should make for a hot area, I wonder if he will coat/wrap them to protect the trans and body. Id love to see hove the exhaust travels from there. Also how would one remove the engine or exhaust with the car's body still on the frame?

I didn't chop out a section of my frame to clear the harmonic balancer. Maybe you're thinking of the Supra car???

The car belongs to Nathan Clark. He and I have emailed back and forth quite a bit; especially in the beginning. He contacted me first right around when I was finishing up to ask questions about the drivetrain, mounting, transmission, etc. Very cool guy. He was also part of the time machine restoration on the A car and his goal is to convert his car to a BTTF replica. I believe he is converting the body of the car while at the same time installing this motor on the frame.

Also I'll be very surprised if he can keep the intake manifold on the direction he has it. Its one thing when the body is off but once its on everything changes. Believe me I tried everything I could but when you put the body on, there is just no room. You either get the throttle body or the license plate, one or the other. Also notice he doesn't have the water pump on the engine yet. Hopefully he can use one of the lower profile pulleys but it all depends on which accessory offset he has. The setup with the alternator low sticks out more. Alternator high is closer but the alternator is really in the way.

My apologies nick! I was thinking about the supra car now that I go back and look at the blog. That rear section is so thin, IMO taking anything out of it just worsens the effects of a rear end collision.

Hello all,

The video is of my DeLorean project. Thank you for the kind words and for Nicholas for his assistance.
It's finally getting real now that it starts and my garage floor is slowly being uncovered as parts go back onto the car.
I've been making updates to my blog to show friends where I am up to and how far she has come.

Feel free to check it out v8timemachine.blogspot.com.au/ (http://v8timemachine.blogspot.com.au/)

The car probably would of be parted out if I didn't grab her as she needed a lot of work, so I can sleep easy about modifying her :)

Cheers,

Nathan

Hey Nathan! Glad you could stop by! I had been watching your blog for a while without seeing an update; didn't realize you updated in June. I got worried that the project was on hold. I'm glad it's moving forward as planned! Keep up the good work, the craftsmanship looks great! Is 2 people enough to start an LS DMC club? Haha!

Sorry Nicholas, I was a bit busy working on the car and a few other projects to post any updates. I'm sure you know what it's like. Lol. I will try and get a few more backlogged posts up, but they should get more exciting from here on in :)

This is by far the most elegant engine swap I've ever seen in a DeLorean. The exhaust solution is just gorgeous, I hope heat doesn't prove to be an issue. I wish the DeLorean vendors would offer a solution like this. DeLorean owners would be lining up by the hundreds to ditch their PRVs.

Oh, and it's so nice to see someone going with 245 series tires instead of going down to 225s. The current trend of installing 225 tires on DeLoreans is almost a fanatical, religious issue for me.

Sorry for the lack of updates, i've been far too busy building. lol
Body is back on and the car is getting very close to driving without all the cosmetic items fitted yet.
I'm working on updating the blog today :)

Good to see that someone is trying out the KW shocks/springs. They are always listed on eBay, but with a hefty price tag for the set. I'd be very interested to see how they ride. I agree that the purple/yellow is a bit jarring... you have to hope that its not just an austentatious thing and the quality is fully commensurate with the price.

That exhaust work is too pretty to cover up with wrap! I have one question, the oil pan looks very close to the ground...is there any chance of it ever hitting if you were to hit a dip at speed?

I can weigh in on this if Nathan doesn't mind. I assume the engine is that the same height as mine since that's pretty much set by the transmission. Attached is a photo I took several months ago. It shows a flat piece of steel up against the lower section of the engine cradle section of the frame. The oil pan is pretty much at the same height as the frame in that area. It's certainly lower than the stock oil pan but it's not nearly as low as how it usually looks in photos. In almost all cases you would have to scrape the frame before scraping the oil pan. There are certainly unique cases where you need to be careful but it's not as bad as you'd think.

The oil pan is from a GTO because it's the only version of the LS engine series that used a front sump oil pickup.

Keep posting more pics and videos Nathan!!

The oil pan is a lot lower to the ground than the factory setup, but it is not lower than the cross member. It looks worse than it is because of the way the Delorean fascia sits. I am wanting to dry sump the engine eventually to fix the only part of the car I'm not happy with.

No worries Nick. That pic is identical to my setup.

I will try and get another video up when I do some more testing. Maybe some incar footage and sounds!
As in Nicks videos, the recorded sound doesn't do it justice. It sounds very angry for a Delorean.
The plan is to get the final bits and pieces fitted and take some good photos aswell!

Damn it this is really making me want to ditch all the PRV nonsense for some simple American cubic inch goodness.

More pics of the exhaust please. Im still really curious how it routes.

Man Nathan your exhaust is so awesome. I am definitely super jealous of it (and of your extra .3L lol). Your intake is also really impressive. I was convinced there wasn't enough room to route behind the fascia. Obviously that's not the case!

Nick, I have been jealous of the fact your car has been running for 2 years, so we're even!
The intake only fits because the impact absorber has been removed.

I hate to resurrect an old thread, but I just watched the episode of Mighty Car Mods and just found this thread. Awesome build! I love the ingenuity of both you and Nick! Did you have to make a custom adapter for the transaxle as well, or was there another option available in Australia?

Josh
10-16-2014, 09:07 PM
There is an off the shelf adapter and flywheel. Its pretty pricey though.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DELOREAN-CHEVY-LS-RANGE-V8-Engine-conversion-to-Renault-UN1-gearbox/171498160892?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%2 6asc%3D20140107083358%26meid%3D9157f69aff844e4aab4 7e83f0d0c561c%26pid%3D100011%26prg%3D2014010708335 8%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D10%26sd%3D171385443204

There is also an adapter via a bellhousing conversion. THe issue with this is it makes the transmission longer, and space is really at a premium. I dont see it being possible to pull off this conversion this route.

http://www.tornadosportscars.com/NewItems/Newitems.html

Nick fabbed up a custom adapter and flywheel. I am going the same route. Something else to consider is all custom transmission and motor mounts. And this is just to get the engine sitting in the car! Hooking everything up is another story!

This set-up looks and sounds great and I am sure that the power is amazing, but don't these headers put out a freakishly amount of heat? I read that you used insulation but these headers, catalytic converters and even the mufflers are so close to everything. I know how hot my stage I headers get when I am driving for a few miles and I am glad that the DMCH system is so small and out in the open so it can get cooled properly and does not impact the engine or any cables in the engine bay.

Not sure if you did some excessive driving or tests so far with the engine running for longer times to see if the exhaust system is melting anything.

Anyway, great job on the car. It is awesome and I will continue to follow your blog.
