View Full Version : Alright all you SEDOC bums! Let's get this tech-session ball rolling! [AUGUST 24th ]

When looking back through my pictures I noticed we've had 2 to 3 tech-sessions each year since 2007. This is the first year where it's almost August, and we haven't done anything at all yet. What a bunch of slackers!! :) We're all guilty, yet the funny thing is I get the feeling everyone wants to do something, but are just having a hard time making it happen.

To get something concrete on the calendar, I'm happy to offer up my place in Buford for a tech session/hang-out/get-together. Whether you have something to do on your car or not, come on out and we'll have a great time! From what I understand the location is suitable for a great many of us.

Yesterday Ben and I got together to go for a drive, talk cars, life, etc, (pics below). It doesn't take much to have some fun. Really made us want to organize something very soon. I'm very flexible for whatever Saturday works for most people (just not Aug 31, or Sept 7). It can be as early as 2 weeks from now, or as long as it takes to give everyone decent notice for maximum attendance. I can toss up August 17th, 24th, but if this is too soon I totally understand. And because of the difficult weather this summer, let's also plan a rain date for the following Saturday of whatever we decide.

That thread from a couple weeks ago where a bunch of us chimed in was just like old times, and was proof that you guys still read the forum and are reading this now, so ignorance is no excuse! :whip:

Bear with us, new guys over in the Woodstock area, we know you're dying for a get-together. I felt exactly the same way when getting my car. I think the hurdle for you is your location is somewhat of a dead-zone (hardly any owners in that area), and too many D owners are just not willing to drive their cars 1-1.5 hours one way in Atlanta traffic for an event only 2-3 hours long. (sorry you guys! hope we haven't put you off too much).

P.S. I think some sort of mountain drive is still a great idea that we should talk about doing this fall.

Thanks for posting and hosting. I'd love for us to also have a meeting about nominating an event cordinator. Back in the day, sedoc had someone who commonly coordinated events. Lets revive sedoc. Perhaps we can all get on a call list and put out some calls to each other. Jeff Green contacted me about getting the group together, and I gotta say, the phone call seemed more personal than a dmc post. At this meet, we can also plan a time for a cruise drive. Perhaps a fall drive to the mountains. (Listen up Ron and Sean)
Ill save my dmc Houston in tank all in one fuel pump install for the tech session, if anyone is interested, and I will also make myself available for tech help. If Ron shows up, and Sean, between the three of us, we should be able to incapacitate your vehicle so it will not make the drive home. If buddy can't bring his a/c gear I can bring my pump and recharge kit for r12 and 134. Bring your own air. Eric and Ryan I expect you to show up as well, or you will both be added to my ignore list. So, post up people. What are your thoughts?
Ryan, the rules are simple: you must attend this event to win at life.
Ron, you must attend in your delorean to prove you are a true enthusiast, and actually own a delorean.
Eric, I am certain you sold your car years ago. Prove me wrong.
Sean. What more can I say? Everyone is doing it. You know you want to.
Dermot. I have faith you will do the right thing.
Buddy, travel to the future, see how much fun this will be, and show up. (Time machine optional)
Jai, come on buddy. Bring the son of Herbie if you like. But show up.
To everyone else, I didn't forget about you, just be there.

I'll ignore that Ben. Mainly cos I don't know what it means :)

I've probable been to 60% of the tech sessions held since I got my car, but I would relish the chance to drip oil over Derek's driveway again (sorry bout that).

All right! So the mouse is in the house. That's three. See, we are already at 60% typical sedoc attendance. Lets keep it going.

I have brake parts now, so I can bring part of 2812 with me! We can all watch as I figure out how to put brakes back together I took apart almost two years ago. I know Josh at DPI has shown interest in having a tech day with us as well. I am totally up for helping setup one our our large Fall SEDOC Tech Sessions!

PS: I can bring A/C gauges and a vacuum pump if needed. I also have a dwell meter and K-Jet pressure gauges......
PPS: Who wants to help me fix my idle/mixture issues?........
PPPS: If someone has a large metal bucket, acetone, and dry ice, I can evacuate my a/c and finish repairing it....(my orifice tube is screwed up)
PPPPS: I can bring a jack / jack stands as well if needed.
PPPPPS: That's enough PS's.

What is a tech session?

It's usually a get-to-gether where we work on our cars, either our own cars, or help other owners with larger jobs, or owners doing smaller jobs for the first time.

Good for getting the assembled brainpower to help troubleshoot issues.

Not good for starting something that can't be finished in a few hours and leave the car immobile, so tranny/engine swaps are out :). Common topics are AC work, torsion bar adjustment, minor engine work, that sort of thing.

Often guys post what jobs they'd like to attempt, particularly if specialist tools/equipment (like buddy's AC gauges) will be needed.

Is there a way I can edit my first post in this thread on an ongoing basis until it has run its course? To update the attendance list and other info and such.....

Alright, here's who seems to be "in" so far:

Dermot
Ben
Jeff
Chris
Eric
RammJaeger (probably)
Buddy
Jai

Typically about 2/3 of those who say they're coming actually show up, so going by that we've got 6 so far (including myself - who won't not show up), which is pretty good. :) But more of course are welcome! Let's make this the SEDOC event of 2013... since it's the first event of 2013.

As for a date, I'd say we should choose between August 17 and September 14. It's a tough balance between doing it soon because we're eager, and giving it some time to get all the plans straight and have maximum attendance. There's also the variable of if we're going to try to do another event this fall. If so, then doing the tech session in August rather than September is better.

I'm sure that I'll be able to come, but if it happens on a specific day of the week I may also have a special someone with me. Be warned, she will be SUPER EXCITED about seeing so many DeLoreans in one spot.

Side note: I've been really good about showing up to SEDOC events except for the last two or so, and that's because my life has been in constant turmoil. It's not ALL gone but I'm hoping most of it has subsided so STOP FUCKING JUDGING ME OKAY :P

As for a date, I'd say we should choose between August 17 and September 14.

Just re-read this and wanted to clarify... I meant we should choose between either August 17 and September 14, not any time in between them. (just in case that wasn't obvious)

The no-show jabs aren't meant for anyone in particular, it's just a normal thing that always happens at the SEDOC gatherings. There are always a few who intend to come but can't for whatever reason when the day comes. No worries!

My I suggest we all jump on a Conf call to jointly plan the meet? Im thinking we have a 30 minute planning call of which I am happy to host, and do so some weekday night ... but need your feedback. Please reply with your answers:

1) you interested in joining the group Conf call? Yes or No
2) what day is best for you?
3) what time of day is best for you?

Once I hear back from at least 5 or 6 of you, I'll post the time and call in number here on the site.

I think we are going to be just planning a small tech session to do fuel boot and oil change at the beginning of sept. Then we are going to take the cars up on the dragon for a drive. come back to house and go out on the lake and cookout. If any SEDOC want to make the drive up to Vonore. easiest to come up 75 and get off in chattsworth on US hwy 411.

Hi guys,

Some interesting and exciting news.... I've been in contact with DPI Josh, and he is very receptive and interested in the idea of him coming down this fall to be at one of our tech sessions. I think he could do as early as Sept 14, but suggested that middle-late October would work best for him. He just needs a reasonable guarantee that there will be some work for him to do on a few cars, to make the trip worthwhile (he would most likely fly down). Of course even better would be to know exactly the jobs we'd want him to do that day, so he can plan and send the parts down ahead of time. He says work performed at the tech session would be "at a much reduced labor rate compared to in shop."

Is this something you guys would be interested in? I realize that some like to just do a general inspection of their cars or mainly come to socialize, but it's a good chance to have a job done by a DeLorean expert that may be more difficult than DIY or that you've been putting off for a while (such as trailing arm bolts).

If October works best for Josh, we can still do another event before then if you guys want. Although August 17th just became unavailable for me. That leaves August 10 (awfully close - this weekend), August 24, September 14, 21.

ccurzio
08-08-2013, 01:47 PM
I'm definitely interested. I have yet to have his exhaust system fitted to my car and I'd like to get that done. Definitely an inspection and maybe a little VoD cleaning. (I'm also having hot-start issues again. I'm thinking DMCH's new pump/sender has a rest pressure flaw, because this is the second pump I've gotten from them. Works perfectly for a while when newly installed, but then ends up having the same issues after time. Twice now.)

And I don't know if this would even be in the scope of a tech session, but if he's looking to get his hands REALLY dirty I'd really like to get my roll pin fixed so I can use 2nd gear.

FYI,

Start a small pilot hole down the center of the plug only going about an 1/8" down. Drive in a course thread machine screw far enough to get a good bite then pull the screw out, the plug should come with it. DON'T try to drill all the way through the plug and brass casing.
