So, I just have a quick question.

1.) What is the size of the barrel connectors used for the fuse box and other connectors throughout the car? I am looking to replace some of the 'iffy' ones and wanted to get the correct size and then get the correct tool to crimp them.

I was looking at McMaster Carr and noticed that some already come with the heat shrink material attached? Has anyone used this? I was thinking of doing the bare connectors, some solder then heat shrink but if anyone thinks these are better maybe I'll go that route. Or should I go with the high-temp ones from McMaster Carr?

Any help would be appreciated!

Steve,

If your looking to replace fuse box terminals, I would suggest you just get the replacement Fuse box Kit form Your Favorite DMC vendor. I assume you have a few Melted spots on yours since your wanting to replace your terminals.

As far as the other connector terminals, the Lucas " church window" harness connectors use 3MM pins & sockets. available from http://www.britishwiring.com/Multi-Wire-Connectors-s/35.htm?searching=Y&sort=5&cat=35&show=30&page=1

The Open barrel Crimpers are available for around $30 through amazon or ebay. They typically have crimp range sizes from A,B,C,D,E in one tool.

Thanks for the reply. I am planning on doing the fuse box this winter, and will buy the kit.

I am looking to replace the connectors for the RPM relay. Some of the barrel sockets for the connectors are VERY corroded (I am talking copper wire oxidizing to green and it crumbling). I'd like to replace them as they are turning the white plastic around it brown from the heat. I am going through and checking all of them (connectors, relay socket connectors, etc) and just wanted to get the correct size. I should go out and just buy a small digital measurement tool and that way I can do it myself :D

Thanks for the link to the crimping tool.

Relay terminals here: http://www.britishwiring.com/Spade-Terminals-s/39.htm?searching=Y&sort=5&cat=39&show=5&page=3 Just pick the appropriate wire strand size. There is a reference chart in the wiring section that gives STRAND count to AWG size equivalents.

The RPM relay Connector housing with terminals is Here: http://www.britishwiring.com/6-Way-1-4-Spade-Connector-p/c846.htm Of coarse you only use Half of the connector kit, but the price is cheap enough.

British Wiring has just about every type of the commonly used LUCAS based wiring components for the car. Just look through all the sections to see what they have available.
